Auris Sr180 Owners

The Auris SR180 was released in January 2008, nearly three months on, are there any owners out there, or potential owners awaiting delivery of their new pride and joy.

If so where are you? ;)

As the SR180 appears to have undertaken some changes in it's short life so far, does your SR180 have Keyless Entry, Push to Start, and a Sunroof... or are you the proud owner of an SR180 with a Key, and a solid tin roof!

Hopefully my Eclipse Black SR180 should be arriving very early March 2008... for now I have my Ixion Blue T180.

My Eclipse Black SR180 wont be arriving until early April :(

I already know, from the dealer, it will not have the Smart Entry with Push Start, or a Sunroof. I must admit, I would have liked to have had the Smart Entry and Start.

I'm not sorry about loosing the Sunroof though, as my current car has one and I think I've opened it twice in the five years I've had the vehicle.

The SR180 demonstrator from the local dealers I drove, seemed to be a bit of a T180/SR180 cross ! With Smart Entry and a Sunroof, and with all of the features of the SR180.

This will be my first diesel engined car, and the most powerfull I have owned. I was very impressed, on the test drive, with the amount of torque available, providing great performance, in the mid range, where you need it most. I hope it lives up to my expectations.

I particularly like the understated looks of the SR180, although it's not quite as subtle as the T180, those in the know would recognise it for what it is, but to the casual observer it’s just a midrange Toyota. Until you put you foot down :D

April still seems a long way off !

JezzerJ - When did you order your SR180?

My Eclipse Black SR180 was ordered on Jan 25th. But from what I've heard there was a production stop for two weeks (?) and all SR180's are arriving at dealers two weeks later than that initial forecast. Please bear in mind this is what I understand from what my dealer has told me.

Aldridge Andy - I ordered it on 18th Feb. So it seems, from your posts, about the same sort of delivery time scale as yours; maybe a week longer.

The dealer did show me the delivery schedules, printed out from the factory, for SR180's in each colour. Dark Blue was available in about a week. However Eclipse Black, in the 3 door, were on six weeks delivery.

I must admit I haven't heard of any delays in production, and hope the car will be delivered, as scheduled, during the first week in April.

I might just give the dealers a ring to check !

JezzerJ - I've heard from the garage today that my SR180 was built on Feb 14th, and has now arrived at my Toyota Dealers.

It doesn't have a sunroof, or Keyless entry, but to be honest the loss of them isn't a major issue. I just wish that Toyota's on-line information was a little more accurate.

So fingers crossed one week tomorrow, I should be collecting my new Auris SR180 in Eclipse Black.

That's great news, you will have to post some pictures when you get it.

By the way I stumbled across this article on the web. It was published on the Lindop Brothers Toyota web site. It details the differences between the T180 and the SR180 "Halo Model ?", including deleted items like sunroof. Pity other dealers don't seem to have a copy ! Bit late now I know, but you might like to have a look.

Please post your impressions of the SR180, once you have picked it up.

Right I went to see my new SR180 on March 1st, and it's just awaiting it's final prep, and fitting of Mudflaps. Understandably the garage want to make sure this one is "spot on" after the niggles with my T180.

I have a couple of photos of my car in the dealers compound, I just need to obscure the number plates, and then work out how to post pics.

The SR180 does look rathr smart in black, especially with the darkened rear glass and spoiler making it stand out more than the T180 did.

Black is definitely the right colour. If only they kept themselves clean!

Do you mind me asking what “niggles” you had with your T180 ? I have had a couple of mid range Corollas, in the past, and they were brilliant. The last one I kept until it was nine years old. It only failed once, with a starter solenoid problem. Other than that it was extremely reliable. This is one of the reasons I am going back to a Toyota.

A friend of mine has an Auris T3 and is extremely pleased with it. I don’t think they have had any issues at all, so I am surprised you have had problems.

The dealer e-mailed me today, just to keep in touch, and to let me know that they were hoping to bring the delivery date forward by a few days. Fingers crossed!

I'm quite particular at keeping my cars clean, but this will be my first black one so the whole experience will be interesting.

My T180 had / has few niggles, but most annoying are the squeaks and creaks from the passenger side dashboard area, and the centre console. It just smacks at poor build quality. At the moment the dash and A-Pillar trims are packed out with sticky backed black felt pads applied by the dealer in a quest to try and stop the noises. The breaks squeal too at the final point of coming to a halt, most annoying when coming home at 3am from a night out. This has lessened having now reached 2,500 miles. The drivers seat has also worked loose so when you get out of the seat it rocks backwards a little. There was a misfire when accelerating very gently around 1,600 miles, but I haven't noticed that recently. Fixed problems are a squeaky clutch pedal, and a rattling trim around the drivers seat belt upper mount.

On a plus side the engines refinement and performance are excellent, as is the fit and finish of all the external panels.

My last Toyota was a 1997 Toyota Corolla G6 brought new, and it was a truely excellent car. In fact the car I have ever kept the longest at five years. Here's hoping that the Auris SR180 is able to stick around for a similar amount of time.

Did the dealership swap you into a SR180 or something? I know of your problems so did they accept you refused the car and are swapping it or are you trading it?

Black looks really fantastic BTW - its dirty after 3 days of driving though so get used to that. However all is not lost. It doesnt actually look too bad dirty. Saying that i wash every 2 weeks and ALWAYS use the 2 bucket method. Waxing every 3 months.

Hi, I am expecting my T180 sr to arrive on wednesday I've gone for 5dr Silver with black leather and tech pack.My previous car was a 2007 Civic type R in black which I was sick of cleaning, thats why I,ve gone for silver this time around.I needed 5dr with the arrival of my baby daughter, this was the main reason for swapping appart from the jarring ride quality shaking my daughter all over the place. Oh and a constant 27 m.p.g no matter how slow I went.My initial impressions on a 20 minute test drive are what I expected- bags of in gear acceleration and good ride quality and overall a better degree of quality to the Honda bar the excellent gearbox of the typr R.

I had a meeting with the dealer principle towards the end of January.

The dealership did approach Toyota for a goodwill gesture, but that was refused.

The dealership then offered to change to an SR180 at cost to the dealership. The difference in cost presented to me was also financed at 0% APR.

I don't think anyone has come off "fantastic" out of the deal, but it's fair. Even things like mudflaps for the SR180 I've had to pay for again, but purely for the parts price, and not the fitting. Lets hope that the SR180 starts off on a better footing.

Rattles in the dash and squealing brakes seem to be well documented on this forum. I would like to think that Toyota take notice of this, and of course customers who report these as faults under warranty, and have made real efforts to correct them. After all Toyota prides itself on the high quality of its products.

If anybody has a 2008 T180/SR180 perhaps you could comment on these issues, and whether they have been resolved.

On the subject of paintwork, this will be my fourth black car, and yes keeping them clean borders on obsession, but it’s well worth it. A black car with spotless alloys, need I say more?

Aldridge Andy – do you think the “misfire when accelerating very gently around 1,600 miles” could have anything to do with fuel ? I have read conflicting reports about supermarket diesel, for example Tesco, who, its claimed, use a percentage of Bio-Diesel, in their diesel fuel, and this is not recommended in the D-4D 180 D-Cat engines. Or is this a load of rubbish ?

I haven’t owned a diesel before so have no experience of this. Is the two to three pence per litre saving offered by the supermarkets false economy in the long run?

Rich3 - Interesting that you have swapped from a Honda Civic to an Auris. I looked long and hard at the Civic Type S 2.2 diesel. The factor that swung it for me, in the end, were the understated looks of the Auris.

Wow! That's a result Barry. I'll look forward to seeing how it does against some of the other stuff.

It's about on a par power wise with the N/A MR2s and lots more torque, so should be interesting. Is Patrick worried yet?

Stick the Parts-King chip in at £375 delivered for an extra 35bhp (210 bhp total) and you will probably not miss the Type R at all!

(I should get a bigger discount if I keep plugging it like this and I haven't got one myself yet..... ;) )

Hi, I already have a chip from dieseltuner.co.uk , It's a Spider chip and boosts power to 215ps and 470nm of torque. To be honest the type R never felt very quick only in 1st and second from standing start 0-100 in 18 secs reflects the standing start performance but how many times do we actually do this! mid range was not that impressive in vtec as I found out with a Golf 170 TDI.

How easy was it to fit? Does it increase the turbo/airflow as well or is it a fuel only chip?

From the website it looks like it just adjusts/increases the fuel as it states typically there is more air in the cylinders than needed normally.

The Auris T180 isn't listed but the Rav4 T180 is - I'm guessing Rich3 has got this. The "FREE ENGINE WARRANTY AND 5 YEAR GUARANTEE WITH EVERY SYSTEM" is making it tempting.

Rich3: Have diesel tuner confirmed the spider chip will definately work in the Auris SR/T180?

I have had the chip on a Hilux Invincible for the past 3 months and takes about 3-5 mins to fit. I need to send the chip back to have it remapped for a small fee.The chip changes the fuel only not the boost. This chip is called a Toy 6 and will fit Rav and lexus 220. The transformation in performance was amazing on the hilux 0-60 in 9 secs !! and did not notice an increase in consumption ,£375 incl vat.

I will ring them up and check but pretty sure I mentioned it when I purchased and they said yes! The offer on the warranty was not available when I bought mine ! Dont know what this will cover on the engine? I did get the 5yrs on the chip though.

That might explain why there was no improvement fitting an performance air filter and some reports of less performance. I am presuming performance air filter might however help chipped D-4D?

Believe me if you buy a quality chip you will not want for a performance air filter the extra power you get is unbelievable!
