Wind Deflectors

I'm thinking about getting some wind deflectors for our new (to us) RAV4.

What is the general consensus? Do they greatly reduce wind noise?

What other purpose to they serve?

(Just love this new car!!!)

They allow you some ventilation without too much wind noise. You can also get them that fit on the sunroof which reduce resonation. This occurs when you open the roof fully and air is admitted into the car more and more as the speed increases. The result is that the interior acts like a pressure vessel and air will be forced into the car until it can accept no more and all of the car has expanded slightly like a balloon. At this point the air will be forced out again and the pressure drops and allows the filling process to start again. It sounds like a heavy drumming noise and can hurt sensitive ears. It can normally be stopped by dropping one back window down about 1 inch which simply lets the pressure out. If you press the open (slide right back) button on your sunroof you will find it stops about 4 inches from the back. This is the point where those clever Jap engineers have determined that the least amount of resonating is likely to occur. If you want it to go the rest of the way e.g. to play tank commanders, you have to press the switch again - try it!

OK this is the long answer but you did ask!!!

I personally am not keen on the look of them but some here have them fitted so I'm sure somebody will give you an objective opinion.

Regards

Hi Windy, I done a thread on wind deflectors when I had my last Rav. See link -

Personally, I liked the style of them and easy to fit. Only downside I found was during wet weather.

Because as the name suggests, the wind deflectors stopped the rain being blown off your windows.

Cheers.
