Any Tips On Driving With An Mmt Gearbox?

Hi all

We are picking up our new Aygo with an MMT gearbox tomorrow. :D

We selected the MMT to try an make the daily grind (sorry delightful commute) as easy as possible and we did have a quick test drive of both an Aygo and a Yaris with one. Only being used to driving a manual gearbox and knowing absolutely nothing about how to drive using a semi auto box it did seem a bit 'lurchy' once or twice and the Yaris seemed to dither about a bit deciding which gear to use when going up a short hill (the Aygo did a much better job by the way) but after reading this forum it seems that there may be a trick or two (or at least a few things to be aware of) when using an MMT box.

So any advice or tips much appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

The great thing about the MMT gearbox is that u can go up a gear using just the accelerator, simply lift off the gas then back on when the revs are high enough. Also sometimes on inclines etc especially when the engine is cold the car sometimes doesnt go up a gear itself so you find you need to quickly put it into 'manual mode' and knock it up a gear.

Theres other things aswell but its hard to explain with writing, you'll soon figure it out after a while :)

Thanks for that Zaaro.

I picked it up today and have been running around in it and I have to say... WHAT A CAR :) :)

I was expecting a few compromises considering the price but driving this thing is great. I'm even looking forward to driving to work tomorrow.

I only drive automatics because of my licence and the car was some what of a surprise when it rolled back on hills.

For people who were not used to the MMT and drive CVT, like myself, it was surprising that I had to do a clutchless hill start. Obviously for drivers used to manuals it won't be a problem as they will be expecting it!

I've had people comment that the car uses gears that they would not use if they were driving manually but I think the car tends to go for what is the most economical.
