99 Rav 4 With Hunting Issues

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I have a 99 Rav 4 which is hunting whether cold or hot around 2000 rpm. I have changed the plugs and leads and also run through some injector cleaner on the recommendation of my local Toyota dealer, none of these have solved the problem which seems to be getting gradually worse. My toyota dealer told me there was no point running a diagnostic test as the engine management light isn't on. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Hi - am I right in understanding that the engine is idling roughly at this speed?

And a few basics - is it the petrol 1998cc engine and roughly what mileage has it done?

I can send you links to pages of a manual tomorrow giving details of the management system - there's quite a few bits and sensors.

Assume you've checked things like air filter; air not leaking into the intake system; and fuel filter - does the engine run ok on the road at higher speed?

Hi Yes its a 1998c Petrol with approx 79k on the clock.

The idling does seem alittle rough and its fine at high revs and speed. Air filter is fine and there are no splits in the air pipes.

Thanks Chris

The links below describe the fuel system for the 1998cc 3SFE engine. As per my usual, I've scanned them upside down, so you can stand on your head...

Fuel system1

Fuel system 2

Fuel system 3

This will give you a bit of an idea.

Personally, in this weather, unless you can get the car under cover, I'd take the car round to one of these engine performance clinics who specialise in engine tuning - they should find the problem. Hopefully the info will give you an idea of things that could be wrong...and there's quite a few!

Thanks for the info, my next port of call was going to be a diagnostic's/tuning garage.

Your help was greatly appreciated.
