You can adjust the handbrake shoes by taking off your rear wheels, removing the little rubber gromet on the drum and turn it to the six o'clock position. Inside you'll see a gold coloured cog. You can turn this with the end of a flat screwdriver and it will either open or close the handbrake shoes. Can't remember which way is which, but you're best off turning it fully in one direction until the wheels lock, then turn it the opposite direction eight of the teeth on the cogs. That'll adjust the shoes properly and will alter the handbrake lever travel (I just did this today on mine).

As for the handbrake lever itself, I believe there are two nuts which can be adjusted, one of which is a lock nut. Not done this myself, but it seems straight forward enough. I guess you'd have to remove some of the centre console to get to it, but probably just the gear knob, and the gator and plastic bit that the ashtray / cigarette lighter socket is part of.

If you want, PM me and I'll dig out the relevant bit of the workshop manual that covers it.

Regards - Sid
