Steering Noise

I have started to notice a noise on the steering. I have read a thread on the US site and they seem to report it frequently;

In my case when I come to a junction with the steering slightly to the left (not noticed right but might be) just as I come to a stop and turn the wheel a bit more into the junction, I get a kind of creaking/popping noise that you might expect if the steering shaft was twisting through a dry rubber gaiter or boot.

Apparently Toyota recognise the problem and have introduced a modified steering shaft. New cars are fitted with it (so you guys with new XTRs don't worry!) but I wonder if anyone else has it?

My car has done about 11500 miles and was registered Sept 06.

I also have some paint chipping off the sills. This is the black paint right at the bottom under the doors. I will post some pics soon but maybe you could check that as well please.

I will be talking to Toyota tomorrow.
