Service Plan

My dealer has offered me a Service Plan for my new RAV - £624.53 for 3 years with 0% finance available. Is this a good deal?

This is an official Toyota product but it seems to be specific to my dealer. There are prices quoted on the Toyota website but only for the Aygo and Auris. A 3 year plan for an Auris with the same engine (2.2 D-4D) is £355 which seems a lot different even allowing for the extra complexities of 4 wheel drive.

If anyone has been offered or taken up one of these plans I would be interested to know what you think.

Thanks, Yossarian

I took one out on my new 2.2 a few months ago think it was £450?? then. You pay for three services at todays rate, they said it goes up every year so if you're using a Toyota dealer makes sense to do it and avoid the price rises. It was official Toyota not the dealer as you do get a card and bumf direct from Toyota.

For a 05 Reg XT3 VVTi 4.2 RAV4 just been offered the following Service Plans .......

£354.58 for a 2 year plan - 40,000 and 50,000 services

£658.39 for a 3 year plan - 40,000, 50,000 and 60,000 services

So the 2 year will be one major and one minor service, and the 3 year is a Major, Minor and then BIG Major service (adding £300 for the 60k one but I imagine cost of that in 3 years will have gone up a reasonable whack, so locking that down quite well)

Does this seem reasonable?

I guess these may be a bit more then a plan for a new motor as it includes more service items?

I'm being quoted nearly as much (£624.53) for the 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 services. I'm not sure what's involved in these but I assume there will be no BIG major service at those mileages - which makes your deal look good and mine a bit of a rip-off!

Well, that is good news for me, at least :D

If it is any help, I have this info:

The 10,000 and 30,000 services are intermediate and the 20,000 is full.

on my RAV4, the actual costs paid are as follows:

the 10,000 service cost £84.54 (Feb '06 cost) - this may have been discounted 10%?

the 20,000 service cost £269.49 (Mar '07 cost)

the 30,000 service quoted at £150 (Mar '08 cost)

So the total paid to match your service plan schedule is £504 - so even with inflation, it does sound that yours is high (assuming you have petrol or it makes no difference?)

I think these plans are pretty much the same from all dealers but costs vary due to hourly rates? (Devon rates are likely to in the low region compared to average, I would guess)

What appeals to me with these plans is locking the hourly rate down over time at todays rate, plus a free MOT - which is worth about £50 or so - and maybe more in a couple of years time.

Thanks for the information Hoovie.

The offers seem to be different - mine looks official in a printed brochure but unlike your deal there is no free MOT (although it does include free puncture repairs!) The salesman said it was a 'no brainer' (of course) but I'm not convinced that it's worth it at the price I've been quoted.

I thought the details of the plans would be the same

This is what is in the plan my dealer does:

Service Plan for 2,3 or 4 services - payable by installment at 0%

Free "Toyota4Life Card" - gives 10% discount on accessories, MOT, Tyres, servicing and repairs

ONE free MOT per plan

Courtesy car or collection/delivery on service

Wash & Vac

Free puncture repairs and balancing & new valve (but only within that dealer group)

£15 off Club Toyota Membership

£20 cash if you intro a new customer into a service plan

All listed in a very typical looking Toyota folder matching all the other Toyota folders

My local dealer is the "Marsh" group -

The 0% interest looks like a good deal - except that your plan has to start with an uptodate history, so my service is due on Monday, but I cannot take out the plan today to cover that service, but only AFTER monday to cover the service starting in a years time - SO you could say toyota are getting pre-payment by installment of all the services (the con of the scheme compared to the pro of freezing the service prices)

I reckon I will be taking this out on Monday as I will end up using Toyota for servicing anyway and I think I will either come out on top just or at least break even overall cost wise.

Be interesting to see what others have been quoted .........

Put car in for 30k service today and decided to go with the 3 year plan for the next 3 services.

When I told the receptionist I would go for it, she said "hold on a minute, just need to check a couple of details", looked at car history then came back and said "well, if you get our "Privilege Card" now for £25, we can take 10% (£66) off the service plan and 10% off todays service as well".

So at the end of the day, the service plan ended up costing me £600 for 3 years servicing (and will also give me a free MOT) so I am pretty happy

And they swapped all 4 wheels for new ones with no hassles as well ;)

Sounds like a good deal you got there....what do you mean about swapping all 4 wheels for new ones?

Toyota alloy wheels have a habit of corroding - and if the corrosion is due to a fault with the wheel - rather then damage caused by kerbing, etc - then Toyota will exchange the old wheel for a new wheel IF the car is under 3 years old i.e. in the Manufacters warranty period. This problem is NOT covered by extended warranty.

My wheels where actually in pretty good knick, but I checked carefully as it is coming up to it's 3rd birthday and I could see some very small areas of bubbling, spoke to Dealer, they ummed and ahhed a little, but agree each wheel had at least one spot of corrosion that would be covered.

(there are lots of threads about this on the forum, which is how I knew what I could do).
