Cts Brake Problem

Hello everyone,

Thought I'd post this about a problem on my T-sport - if it helps 1 person then it's done it's job!!

Last week I noticed a squeaking noise coming from my O/S front wheel.

I jacked the car up and the wheel was tight to turn, indicating a siezed caliper.

I remember having this problem on my old GXi.

The brakes work on sliding pins and one was binding slightly, not allowing the pads away from the disc after braking.

It was quite simple to fix, after removing the wheel I undid the bolt in the offending pin which allowed me to swing the caliper up out of the way.

I then screwed the bolt back into the threaded hole of the pin and pulled back the rubber grommet on the pin so as not to damage it.

I then put pressure on the pin using a large flat bladed srewdriver so as to slide it out while using a twisting motion on the bolt head

using the 12mm socket and wrench.

This eased the pin out quite easily.

I cleaned the grease off the pin and then removed an area of very light scoring from the diameter of the pin using fine wet and dry.

I cleaned the pin, re-greased it and inserted it back into the caliper and it now slid freely again.

Caliper back on, bolt up, wheel back on job complete!!

If left it normally scores the discs and they need to be replaced along with the pads and I don't think all that heat will do the caliper any good either.

The thing that surprised me most about this was that the car has only done 41000 miles and had the 40k service at the dealer last November with nothing to report on the braking system.

Cheers,

Great Forum everybody!!
