Why Does It Do That?

Hi all

Had the all of my brake pads and disks replaced about a month ago (genuine Toyota parts at Mr T service centre) and an unsightly rust ring has appeared around the centre of the disks already. :ffs:

This is visible on all 4 disks and is about 10mm from the hub of the disk and looks :censor:

Had a look at the other halfs Honda and she has a small (1-2mm) rust ring on her disks (no puns please :P )

Why arn't the Toyota pads about 8mm bigger so they are closer to the centre of the disk, especially on the T Sport where the alloys make the disk highly visible.

Sure even if i leave the car 2 or 3 days parked up and use my other car they rust up,brakes stuck on when you do move the car. Ireland does have a bit of a wet climate thou!!

The disc is cast iron, cast iron rusts at the drop of a hat. The only way to stop it is to paint the hub with hammerite or similar. You will also get light rusting on the disc face, this will come off with light braking

Perhaps I wasn't as clear as I could have been :help:

It is rusting on the disk face, 10mm from the hub to the pad - why arn't the pads bigger so they almost meet the hub like on other cars. This is the same for all 4 disks, my car looks really unsightly, well to me anyway.

It was probably the same before I got my pads and disks changed but I wasn't looking as much - or the rust was a darker shade of 'rust'

The hubs are actually fine

Mine were rust brown a few weeks ago when i dropped it at the bodyshop. For some reason when i picked it up the discs were silver. They didn't do anything to them apart from paint the brake calipers.

I had a look at them today and they are still silver. Not sure why they aren't rusting anymore. But as Parts-King said hammerite them and they will stay looking good. Although it probably has alot to do with the weather.

Cheers

Armz.

I see your point, the pads don't go all the way up to the hub, maybe that hub is also used on another Toyota where they do, who knows! That is the way they are though
