Rav4 D-4d Vin Numbers

I am trying to make sense of the vin numbers quoted by Toyota relevant to the modified DMF

being introduced in Aug 2002 manufacture.

They are quoted as JtheG2OV600026183, and JtheG2OV606013132. anything later than this

should have the modified DMF.

My Rav4-d4d is registered Sept. 2003, its Vin is JtheG2OV200046196, is this later than the above

or was my car made years before it was sold?

My car has covered 72k miles, full Toyota service history and records show it had a new clutch

at 53k in 2006.

I need to know if DMF is modified type or not, as I intend to tow many miles abroad.

Any comments advice would be appreciated.

not getting much luck with replies :(

This may help work (or make it worse?) - What model do you have?

I think the RAV 4.2 (which is your car) had a change mid-2003.

If you have a XT whatever rather then a VX, GX or whatever, then it will be the first of the 2003-2006 production run.

Another way to tell is the foglights - if they are squarish, then they are from 4.2 model upto mid-2003; If they are round, then they are from mid-2003 to 2006.

So ..........

If you have round fogs and an XT type designation, your car was almost certainly made in 2003 and going by the info about the DMF, should be OK.

If you have square fogs and a VX/GX type designation, still can't be totally sure if it was or was not (unlikely RAVs hang around for a year unregistered, though)

Maybe worth nipping round a Dealer tomorrow - they could probably tell you within minutes and put your mind at rest

But having a decode of your specific VIN tells us more :-)

I don't think the VIN tells you when a car was built (the makers will have that info seperately cross-referenced against the VINS), but looking at your VIN:

JtheG20V200046196 (it is ..G20V..., not G2oV.. btw)

1st - J=Country of Origin (Japan)

2nd - T=Toyota

7th - 0 = Seat Belts, front Airbags & curtain Airbags

8th - V = RAV4

9th - 2 - check digit (2 in your case - means nothing as far as decoding goes)

10th - 0 - Model Year - so your car is Model Year 2000 - so is the 2000-2003 version I would say from this

11th - 0 - a specific production plant in Japan

12-17 - production sequence.

so checking the first VIN quoted....anything after "JtheG20V600026183" is ok ....

you have "JtheG20V200046196"

So your car was RAV4 number 046196 of the Year 2000 Model built in plant "0"

Toyota fixed the DMF problem from car 026183 of the Year 2000 Model built in plant "0"

Which means - if I am right - that they built around 20,000 cars afterthey fixed this DMF problem before they built yours - so that is looking good :D

have a look here http://fleet.toyota.com/html/50/vin_decoder.asp - it is a US Site, yes, but VINs are global, and the important info is listed there

Yes I agree yours has the later fixings.

It took me a while to figure out why no matter how accurately you add the chassis no to a post it comes out with the letters mixed up near the beginning. Well if you are tearing your hair out and taking it out on the cat I can tell you what is happeniing. When you add the letters J T E H to the post the spell checker thinks you are trying to spell "the" wrong and changes it to "Jthe".

Frustrating isn't it!!

Thank you Hoovie for the time taken to explaining your vin calculation, I am getting happier.

Also Anchorman for explaining the !Removed! Jthe saga, I spent 20 minutes trying to get it right

then gave up, which at 69 you start doubting your own sanity.

No Problem, Meldrew :thumbright:

I think like someone said, if you can't enjoy what you bought, no point in having it.

You could consider an extended warranty for extra piece of mind - this could take you to 2010 and that will cover most eventualities that could possibily happen (covers you in Europe as well and includes full RAC service in the cost).

just a thought :)
