Hi all

I just wondered if any one else has noticed that just under the bonet top of bumper on the right as you look at it there is a black rubber strip (Aygo only) but on hte left near the engine air intake there is no rubber strip but there is holes pre driled for one . Dealer says normal ! Any one know why ?

Leaving the rubber strip off on the air intake side will (very) marginally allow cooler air to get to the induction intake along with the air coming in the main opening (the left hand "nostril").Cooler air means more efficient combustion.

It will also save a couple of pence per car in manufacturing costs.

I noticed this and when I enquired at Mr T's service desk they said the pert did n't exist. Why! Because in the parts listing it's one single piece that goes right across the front, both sides! Then checked on a Platinum in the showroom; one piece on the left as mine.

I noticed this when the Aygo was first launched. I asked sales and parts dept but it seems thats just how it is and they are all the same.

I also guessed it was for airflow intot he engine bay.

Thank you all for replying .

I wonder how hard you would have to drive to notice the difference if a rubber strip was fitted. VERY I would think. (Dont think I will try)

i noticed when we first picked the car up and they apologised and sent us one to clip on.....can't see how that little gap will make any difference to the engine performance given the intake hole in the front. the slit is only quarter of an inch at best.

The answer is that on the diesel Aygo, this is the side that the air inlet is on. This rubber strip helps prevent water entering the air inlet. The air inlet is between the Battery and the radiator, as far as you can get from most heat sources in the engine bay.

It is not a problem on the petrol Aygo, since the air inlet is much further back in the engine bay. You'd have to be in a river before water gets in there.

My guess is that it was cheaper to fit this little rubber strip on all the cars, when compared to the cost to ensure only the cars that needed them had it, or removing them from those that didn't need it.

I have bought a self adhesive rubber strip and totally closed the gap all along the bonnet line with no adverse affects. Marginally helps with aerodynamics too
