Hilux Mk4 - Gear Change And Valve Clearances

Hi all - would really appreciate any advice on stiff gear changes once the vehicle has been running for half an hour or so. Is there any adjustment of linkages external to the box or is it a gearbox out job?

Also do you have any advice on frequency of need to reshim the valves - my truck has done 100,000 miles

There arent any external linkages to the gearbox - the selector goes straight into the 'box.

When was the fluid last changed? If its not been done for a while a quick fluid change may help with the stiff changes.

Im not sure on the valve shims though but usually they only need adjusting/checking if they are noisy.

thanks Mart. the gearbox fluid has been changed recently so i may have to take it off and investigate.
