HI ALL!

I AM TEARING MY HAIR OUT OVER MY 2002 RAV4 D4D,

FIRST OF ALL THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND THEN CAR LOST ALL POWER,POSSIBLY GOING ONTO LIMP MODE.I KEPT TURNING IT OFF THEN VERY GINGERLY PULLING OFF TO TRY AND GET HOME.

I GOT HOME EVENTUALLY AFTER ABOUT 5 OR 6 CUT OUTS

I HAVE CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER,THE CAR STARTED GREAT AFTERWARDS,I WENT AN A BIT OF A RUN FOR ABOUT 10 MINS AND IT SEEMED GREAT,I GIVE IT A GOOD TESTING AND HAMMERING THROUGH ALL TYPES OF INSTANCES LIKE HILLS,ACCELERATING HARD ETC ETC.

I TURNED IT OFF ,TRIED TO START IT AND IT DID BUT AFTER A STRUGGLE,THEN I TURNED IT OFF AGAIN ,NOW IT WON`T START AT ALL AND I HAVE FLATTENED THE Battery.

CAN ANYONE SHINE ANY LIGHT PLEASE?

THANKS JON OWEN

 Hi

You could try a thousand and one things here and not get anywhere best bet is to get these codes read to point you in the right direction.

Yeh hedley is right, you really would save some head scratching if you get those codes read.

In the first place you need to get it started so some Battery charging is in order. While that is taking place I would re-visit that filter as it seems that is what started your (not starting  ) problems. Pump the black plunger in the middle of the filter head until it goes stiff. At that point it has bled all the air out of the system. It will then start but may miss and f@rt a bit until all the air is purged out.

If the initial problem was down to the filter (and it could be) the light was probably indicating low fuel pressure as a result of starvation. You will then need to test it again and by the sounds of it you made a good impression on it with the filter. If it runs OK for a bit then starts acting up then it could be that it is more of the initial problem (that was putting the light on). If disturbing the filter made a difference it may be drawing air into the system but lets take it one step at a time. If you are still having problems pm me and I will give you my phone no so we can try to get to the bottom of it.

Don't worry mate and less of the self harming :P
