Less Miles Or Better Model - Advice?

Hello guys. I wonder if any of you could give me one last taste of your expertise. On Monday, I am looking at two Rav4's, both petrol and manual....

OPTION 1

2003 TOYOTA RAV-4 2.0 GX 5dr Estate - 46,000 miles - 53 reg - £7000 - more local to me and a more preferable silver colour.

OPTION 2

2003 TOYOTA RAV-4 2.0 NV 5dr Estate - 27,500 miles - 52 reg - £7000 - on the Isle of Wight and a less preferable beige colour.

Now everything seems to be telling me to go for option 1. But the lower milage of option 2 is a real head turner. The question is, would it turn your head? Is the 20K less mileage worth the lesser model, less desirable colour and agro of viewing and purchasing?

Also, bartering. Is offering £6500 a liberty?

Thanks for popping by.

It is a matter of preferance. The later model has the round spotlamps and a few more safety features. The older one has (usually) two tone paint which looks nice and IMHO the Oyster Beige is unusual but nice.

I suppose logic should take you towards the newer one and its evolution modifications. As long as the higher mileage has been serviced properly it should be OK - the 2.0 VVTi is a gem. If the lower mileage one has been stood for months on end that can be worse! Try to check the chassis no of the older one against te DMF post.

As for liberties, if you want it for £6500 then start at £6000. Have a good look around it and make sure it ticks all the boxes then use something like "well its not quite what I was looking for but will you take £6k?" It starts the bartering ball rolling.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers

If it were me i'd go for the newer one with the higher mileage, the 4000 miles a year on the 52 plater sounds great but if it's been on the isle of wight all it's life it'll probably be all short trips

have you checked out any toyota dealers higher mileage part exchanges, a company I work for was going the PX their july 05 plate XT5 D4D in november it's done 96,000 miles with full toyota history and a new DMF and clutch at 94,000, the PX price they were offered was 7k which is what I gave them for it.

The dealer said they would just dispose of it through the trade as it was too high mileage for the forecourt, it may be worth giving a few dealers a ring

Out of those two, if they were the same spec and colour, I would go for the older, lower mileage one.

But.....Spec wise, the GX was the top spec and the NV the bottom for the 2000-2003 run? If that is the case, I would then go for better spec as it will be more satisifying to live with, plus if you don't really like the colour of the older one, you will always have a pang of regret buying it

Thanks for all your replies.

All very useful and, as suggested, I will give my local Toyota dealer a call. I thought I should also add that the older beige model has a private number plate. It is not something I am really interested in, but I wonder if the seller bumped up his asking price because of.

Thanks again.

Ignore my daft comment about the DMF - it was late
