Sticky Accelerator Between Gear Changes?

Hi, I've just bought an 2004 1.4 corolla T3 and it seems as though the accelator cable is a bit sticky - ie when changing gear and I take my foot fully off the acellerator, the engine contines to rev high breify. Its ok during normal idle and car runs normally.

Has anybody else noticed this or knows why it does this?

Does it have a cable or is it electronically controlled?

Thanks in advance

This is quite normal, I'm sure you will get used to it !!!

It's something to do with reducing emissions, or something like that.

yip, friends car does that was well, takes a while to get used to,

Hey, mine does that too!

So when you say 'get used to', do you mean that it'll get better if I change gear in a different way?

This happens with the newer Corollas. It is an attempt by Toyota to reduce the emissions and to be honest I find it really annoying. Other manufacturers manage to keep emissions down without using this technique. I drive a 1.6 Corolla and my wife drives the 1.4 and out of the two, the effect is more noticeable with the 1.4 engine. Apart from this both cars are a joy to drive - the steering is well weighted, the gearchange is smooth and the 1.6 certainly pulls well. Come on Toyota, sort it out !
