Remote Locking Problems

Hi,

I own a Toyota Verso T3 .1.8 Manual (05 Reg) 9000 Miles to date. I have been facing a lot of problems with this car. I had problems with the steering Rake and the front shock absorbers which had to be replaced under its warranty. Unfortunately I have run out of my 3 year warranty this Jan and and just last week my remote locking stopped working I tried replacing the batteries to both my remote keys and even then it doesnt seem to be working. I took it down to the local toyota dealer and they told me just to inspect and assess the problem will cost me 66 pounds plus VAT (which is nonsense). I was told that it might need reprogramming or replacing the ECU (1000 pounds). Did anyone in this forum experience similar problems or does anyone know if the ECU could create this problem ? Would anyone know the process of reprogramming the remotes keys ? I will appreciate if anyone could help me to the right directon on this.

Welcome.

You'll find lots of threads on keys, alarms, remote locking etc. And as these are similar across various models most of these will be relevant to you.

[EDIT]Removed link as it was to a thread for an older car and therefore probably not relevant to your car

Sorry, should have said there may be similarities between the systems on cars of a similar age.

Must admit the few I've looked at seem to suggest that dealer assistance is required for this type of problem on the latest cars.[/EDIT]

Hi,

Thanks for your post. I did check the fuses but all seem to be O.K.

 Hi,

Not to sure if you have a key type lock or a push button start either way I would not see a e.c.m problem. The remote batterys should have been replaced on its second year service.Do the leds light when you press the remote buttons? do you have two remotes do they both not work? check all doors and tailgate n bonnet are closed use interior light to check door close switches are working,It is very unusual for the keys to need reprograming without a reason.try different things like sitting in the car and trying to lock/ unlock.try locking by the door button or the door key and then try unlocking on the remote, things like this sometimes kicks the system back in .

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi,

I would like to tell the forum that my problem has been sorted out. It was the re-programming of the remotes whic cost me 60 pounds from the main dealer. But guess what ? I had a key insurance cover called Boomerang Key Tag protection I paid 10 quid for this cover when I took my car insurance policy out. And they said they will reimburse the money back to me. So I suggest anyone who has a Verso or Toyota thats run out of warranty to take this cover. You never know when this could happen.

Cheers

Paulsark.
