Ipod Connection Kit

Am thinking of getting the iPod connection kit fitted at my first service. Could anyone tell me how well it works? Can you only navigate playlists through the stereo controls?

Is it the xcarlink ipod adaptor? I got this and tried to fit it. It all fit (took a bit like) but had no affect whatsoever, apart from stopping the controls on the dash and the ones on my steering wheel from working. Was gutted.
