We'd like to gather experiences and tips about the Auris MMT.

I'll expand this first post with links to previous threads as soon as possible

Hi

I have my auris 1.6 mmt from may 2007 and over 10000 KM - I used it 95% of my driving in manuel-mode = including the padels shifts on the wheel

My First tip = I called it "SNOW MODE"

you can start in 2th gear and than you can up to the 3th ,BUT if you keep it below 40KM,

the gear will not going down to the 1th and will stay at the 2th even if you stop completly.then you can start again in 2th - until you reach the open roads.

I hope its help all the other mmt-owners here in this forum

Is this mode official from Toyota?

First - this is build-in in the official software in the mmt-gearbox in the Auris (made in Europe)

and the new Corolla-4 doors cars (made in Japan).

Someone did program it in purpose - that the owners will use it and it is not a bug or a mistake.

I know that other of "New Corolla/Auris owners " including the workers in Toyota-service stations

they did it - and it's work also in their cars.

second - I spoke with the official Service-manager in our Toyota-Importer-representatives and he knew about this mode

and he knew that it can done.

I dry to get an official letter about it - but they ignored me and i did't get any answer till now.

Maybe you will ask yours Toyota dealer or better Toyota-Europe-Main office to give us their official statement concerning this special mode.

the problem - this "mode" do not mention in the Owner-Manuel books - and this is very odd.

Why not mentioning a very unique and helpfull mode - why to hide it???

Mabye they/toyota are afraid that same owners will do it in wrong positions-like uphill-

but to avoide this situation toyota can put a red warnings

in the Manuel book to pay attantion and NO TO DO IT IN UPHILLS ,and so, and so!!!

I can confirm that the new Corollas MMT do not have this mode. The car wouldn't start at all in second gear.

Very strange, because here in Israel, anyone that tried it -can start in Manual-Mode( in his new Corolla) in 2th.

Please try it again:

When you are in Manual-Mode and in fully stop position - press the brake, and try to move the gear up to 2th.

Look if the number (the gear position) is now "2".

Ok. Could you please write the prosedure step-to-step?

What I tried:

  • 1. The car was still, without the engine on
    2. Put the gearstick into Manual
    3. Gear up to second gear, which was indicated with M2 in the dash
    4. Turned the key around, no start

What I tried:

  • 1. The car was still, without the engine on - NO. START THE ENGINE ( IN "N" MODE)[/color]
    2. Put the gearstick into Manual - YES-while pressing the brake padal
    3. Gear up to second gear, which was indicated with M2 in the dash - YES-still not moving
    4. RELEASE THE BRAKE PADAL AND START MOVING WHILE accelerating according to the road condition.
    5. You can now gear up to the 3th -if you over the 20KM speed and even to the 4th if you above 30KM.
6.If you will drive gently and not above 40KM - and now slowing down, the gear will auto down to the 3th
and later to the 2th (if you still slowing down) - but not going down to the 1th and stay in the 2th - even if you are now in full-stop.
You will see that it still indicated with M2 in the dash.
    7. Then accelerat again until you can speed up more then 40KM and then this mode will be disable.

Well, I'd really prefered if this mode stayed on eventhough I passed x km/h i manual mode but this mode is much better while staying in a traffic jam in manual mode :)

I really can't see why there is no dedicated button for this programme. Every car Iv'e seen with an (semi)automatic has an dedicated "Snow/Winter"-functionbutton.

Yes it is better in a traffic jam but also in the city when there are a lot of crossroads-stops and full off turnings that force u to drive in slow motion and now u can drive without going down in every corner to the 1th gear.

Can u send e-mail to Toyota-Europe to get their official respond why the mmt-software force down to 1th gear in too high speed (below 18 KM), their respond to the ability to do the "snow-mode" ,and why it is not mention in the Manual-Book?

The e-mail adress is:

Ilaria Todesco

Customer Relations Specialist

Customer Relations Department

email : cust.service@toyota-europe.com

I did it before- but they don't gave me any answer and shifted me to my dealer - yet no reply !!!

I think this is very important for all Auris-mmt-owner/

thanks

Hello Isreal, you may like to know, you can operate the MMT as you suggest in an Aygo as well.

Hello worcester

I'm glad to here that this "Snow Mode" also works un your's Aygo.

did u used it very often?

In your's Manual book - did they mention this mode?

In what speed the mmt-gearbox , in Aygo, going down to the 1th ?

The ECT/SNOW MODE works in many automatic's cars

Try this post from the year 2000:

http://my.is/forums/f87/snow-mode-111484/

From this post: "Snow mode causes the transmission to start from second gear instead of first when you've stopped and then want to go"

The main point is that all this cars has the ECT/SNOW button -most of them are Toyota's made- and the Manual-book mention how to enable this mode.

But here in our Auris-MMT there is noting about this mode in our Manual-Book ?

"ect snow-mode" search in google:

i think im right in saying that the computer controlling the mmt wont let you do anything that will damage the car i.e. it wont let you change down if your going too fast, or up if your going too slow. the fact that it lets you select 2nd from stand-still probably means its ok to do. handy if its very icy etc

When u starting off in 2th to park, u will hear some beeps to tell u it is not advisable to park at 2th gear as u will not do it in Manual Gear' car.

The reasion for that , is not that u will cause any damage to your's gear but it is always better to park in the 1th gear (or reverse gear)- in this two gear the engine is holding stonger the car for not moving even if u did't pull the handbrake all the way (which is the best position).
