hi everyone,we are looking at trading in our 2001 5 door gx petrol rav.weve had it two years and its been the best car weve ever owned.its being everywhere and carried everything.were now looking to down size to a small fun car such as the mr2.got to stay with the toyota brand if possible.i was wondering what its value is now.its got toyota service history and 78000 miles on it

Dunno about the value but do know MR2s can be picked up cheaply - I've picked up 2 in the last 6 months for less than a grand each. They had the 3SGTE turbo fitted so the engine was worth the purchase. For real fun, a 3 door RAV with a turbo engine fitted is more fun than a MR2 can ever be!! And I like the MR2 shape - just that they are structurally not built for handling power. At all.

According to WhatCar it's worth about £4.5k trade in, BUT, having changed my car almost annually over the last 10 years I can honestly say that the WhatCar price and the actual price offered in the showroom are usually quite different. I.e. WhatCar is usually about 10-15% over valuing the car - or it might be that my haggling skills aren't that good.

There are quite a few sites that'll value your car free - try searching through Google and it should find a few.

I had my own MR2 about 2 years ago and loved every minute of it (had the hardtop over the canvas roof that helped in the winter!), although I had to get rid of it as there was no storage at all!!!). Had to put my laptop in the passenger footwell, and when the Mrs had me doing the shopping I had to fill the passenger side and put the seat belt round the shopping so the seatbelt warning alarm didn't go off!
