Gen7 Stereo Question

Hi guys. I've got my 52 plate vvti booked in to have the stock sony double din replaced with my sony ipod system. The guy on the phone said that it may cost more than expected as a lot of celica stereos have an additional amplifier that needs bypassing. Is this correct? Will I have to cough up extra or are they trying to milk more money from me?

I've never heard of that on a Gen 7. It's possible, but I think it's unlikely.

I had a Pioneer head unit in a 2001 model and there was certainly no amp to bypass on that.

I've got an 02 plate. If it's got an amp in it, then it's the first I've heard of it and I've had half of my centre dash off! Unless it's built in, I'd say that place might be trying to get more cash out of you for nothing!

Maybe they didn't realise what model it is.

A lot of Toyotas, for example the MkII MR2s, have extra amps to power the Speakers behind the driver's seat; but these days it's much easier to build it all into the head unit even if it's a fairly powerful system (not that the MR2 active system is that powerful; you wouldn't know that it has extra amps if you listened to it with the roof off).

I thought as much. Either the guy didn't know what he was talking about or it was bs. Cheers

I Have a Y plate and I wouldn't think there is an existing amp, but as I remember, when I was looking to buy my Celica, there're were a few with SUB/Amp systems built in, don't know if you have that on yours

You don't have an additional amp, unless you put it in yourself, or there is a black box or two under your driver seats (official toyota 8" subs). And even then, I don't think its going to affect replacing the head unit.

The guy's probably covering his back for extra costs, just in case, based on the G5 Celica, which I seem to remember did have additional amplification.

If he does decide to try and bill you for it, ask to see the amplification units he has bypassed, and the cabling work he has done in by passing it. Then ask to have the extra price removed from the quote, as its rubbish.

Many thanks for the info. This is just as I suspected. Thanks for confirming.
