Having just purchased a new Aygo Platinum after many years of non driving, I would like to find out if there are any benefits to using anything other than standard unleaded petrol (95 oct) in such a small car. If so, what are your recommendations? Cheers.

I use ultimate Unleaded. Once you've used it you can feel a real difference in how the car accelerates etc. I find that the premium stuff is better, may be a little more expensive but with the amount of extra miles you get per tank its all good :)

Seconded- Hugo's deffo a bit more responsive on Super. Plus the extra cost is partially offset by the extra miles you get out of the tank. Apparently it burns cleaner overall and is better for your car too- deffo worth the extra pennies... well, pounds.

I should get half price fuel for that.... I don't even get staff discount of fuel in BP. Shocking :(

I use Shell V-Power and IMHO it makes a real difference...

performance improves and the engine seems to run smoother.. then again may all be in the imagination..

however, as mentioned the extra miles offsets some of the additional cost

Thanks to all who replied so far. Think I will give the V-power a try. Still got 5 bars on the petrol indicator after a week & about 150 miles (got a full tank free from the dealer), so hoping for the same again before I need to fill up. Cheers all.

Just a bit of warning too- you'll notice that not all the bars on the fuel gauge represent the same amount in the tank. Due to the shape of the fuel tank, apparently :)

The first bar is the biggest or lasts the longest and then they seem to decrease each time. Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

Can you all tell me, with general use - how many miles I can expect to get out of a full tank. How much are you getting?

Also - has anyone seen or tried Tesco 99 petrol?

Im getting around 375 miles before the last bar starts flashing, works out at around 48-50mpg. Thats mainly city driving.

I've managed to get approx 400 out of a fuel tank and that was with it chugging along tohe motorway to the nearest fuel point.

Thanks guys - I'll let you know how many miles I rake up before the flasher comes on.

People say there is a diff between the preminum fuels between the likes of tesco Shell bp etc, I'll just say now that there is no difference it all comes from the same hole in the ground.

In malta we have only one crappy unleaded petrol no super no nothing but by mistake 2 weeks ago by mistake they put in LRP (lead replacement fuel) and you could notice the difference! On a stretch of road where it use to stop at 95mile with this it can go easily over 100mph! (104mph) so guess its bcause of the fuel that we get so low top speed here compared to everywhere else!

100 oct all the way. But keep in mind - fuel consumption goes up&better response time from the engine.
