Celica Buying Advice

I'm torn between a toyota Glanza V and a Celica...

I would be looking at at the 6th gen celica... with about 4 grand to spend... i've seen plenty of decent examples at this price on auto trader..

similarly the glanza V is around 4,500 to import..

The image of the glanza is very box racer, looks a bit like a probe/corsa... but it's devilishly quick!

The Celica's image is much cooler B) but is an entirely different car..

My questions are;

1) insurance - How much am I likely to be quoted for on a 1.8 celica? I'm 19 years old with 0 ncb (not been able to afford fully comp insurance i've been a named driver for a year or so). Also, is there a big insurance jump between the 1.8 and the 2.0 ?

2) What sort of performance figures are we looking at with both the 1.8 and 2.0? the mpg, and stuff like that... the general feel of the celica... etc

3) What should I be looking out for when potentially buying a Celica, i'm looking at about N Reg... but the examples go up to R reg depending on who's selling.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Here's some stuff about the 6th gen Celica (from memory so I could be wrong):

1) 1.8 is group 12 insurance, 2.0 is group 15.

2) 1.8 0-60 is 10.0 seconds, 2.0 0-60 is 7.9.

1.8 combined mpg is 35/36 ish, 2.0 combined mpg is 31.

1.8 top speed is 124mph, 2.0 top speed is 137mph.

3) I'm not sure when the 1.8 was introduced, I have a brochure from around 1994 and there's no mention of the 1.8.

I don't know much about the 6th gen but i would go with the celica. Although you may be pushed to find some one to insure it!

I had a quote of 650 fully comp for next year, till i smashed mine up last week. now its more like 2650! lost 4 years NC :(

and before anyone comments (VOR) I know it was my own falt!

Unless it's an import then for sum reason it's a 17, well mine is with old Fluxxy!

I'm 20 with a 1.8, am a named driver on my mums insurance with 3 YNC paying £900, have been looking for my own, most companies quote me nearly £3000 if at all, tesco and direct line are just over the £2000 but dont alloow any sort of modification.

So if you find a company that give a sensible quote, let me know please.

Sam mate - you know Gen 5 is the one for you. For insurance reasons for a start......

Search around the web - there should be for sale....

Look at Roadrunners - he has a great example of a Gen 5 in black.

If your gonna go for a Gen 6 get the GT, the 3s-ge is a rock solid lump.

Adrian Fluz will do 3rd Party on it cheapest, to do full comp try Admiral or Elephant (same company)

Admiral did me the cheapest quote ever for my GT4 and now im going over to Elephant because they undercut Admiral on the Supra.

:hokus-pokus:

By the way get a UK GT and it will be cheaper to insure than an Import Glanza V. Phone around and see
