Did anyone take up the dealership option of having the Supagard protection applied. I declined at a price of £299.00 & opted to wash & wax myself last Sunday. With all the storms we have had down here, my new baby is now looking somewhat the worst for wear. Did I miss a trick with the supagard - let me know what you think.

Cheers. :unsure::unsure:

I negotiated supagard as part of the deal and have never regretted it.

My CTS is nearly 5 years old and it looks like new every time I wash it B)

It's a paint sealent that covers up the tiny imperfections within the paintwork and protects the paint, it makes washing the car a breeze (even flies, bugs and tar just come straight off  ).

I was so impressed that I also negotiated it on the better halfs car :yahoo:

Have heard it is expensive but should last over 3 years so for £299 it works out about £8 per month.

Thanks flumpsfriend - appreciate your reply.

I got the supaguard too as part of a package I think, and still looks so shiney and new, am rubbish at washing it but you get this aftercare kit with loads of stuff or cleaning it and it does do the job well. be interesting to see the difference between a car that has it and one that doesnt at the same age, cause then you will know if its worth the £300.

Thanks everyone. Have read some reviews about Supagard on the net & mostly negative. Some even saying it is a dealership con to extract some extra pennies. One says that the product costs £10 & the rest is labour. I will keep an open mind as the reports on here have been fairly favourable. Has anyone any further comments on this?

I bought Supaguard on a new car a few years ago. It is an overpriced product that is no better than a decent polish you can buy at your local parts outlet.

Save your money and polish your car yourself. Supaguard is just not worth what you are charged

Thanks Steve. Thats exactly what I read.

Yeah I asked on another forum and consensus was its very overpriced wax, they suggested sonax as an MUCH cheaper alternative.

It is better than polish - is doesn't wash off - it can last over 3 years, which polish do you know that can last that long?

Not only do you get the outside done but they also protect the inside too - Maybe you should talk to the technicians that apply it before rubbishing it

It really is no better than a decent polish

The interior treatment can be bought and applied for much less than the dealer will be charging you for it.

The prices that the dealers charge for this treatment are vastly inflated and really not worth it.

It really comes down to the fact that if a new owner wants to pay the quoted price, then it is a personal decision..................I frankly feel that it is just lining the salesmans pockets.

£299 can buy a lot of decent "aftermarket" polish and cleaning materials.

Sorry have to disagree with you - its miles better than any polish :D

I agree £299 that the dealers charge is ridiculous :o , talking to a supagard technician (at a Honda dealership) he said it actually cost around £10 per panel to apply - so to do a complete car should be no more than £100 - now at that price, and the fact it can last over 3 years, its definitely worth it

If its not included in the price of my next car, I will not get the dealer to apply it, I'll arange it myself ;)

I have purchased this product, I have researched this product by talking to the technicians that applied it and also by talking to other contractors that supply and apply this product at less that half what a main dealer will charge, I was once offered a full application for £75. I have seen this product and compared it to others. You appear to believe the Supaguard hype, it is not as good as they claim, it really is not! If you want to protect the inside of the car, there are plenty of cheaper products on the market that are equally as good.

I am sorry if you disagree with me but I do know what I am talking about where Sypaguard is concerned so I feel I can express my thoughts on this product.

Supaguard is no better than a good stock polish such as Zaino or even Autoglym. I know that you have paid good money for Supaguard and I understand that you want to defend it but it really is no better than a DIY product. I know, I bought it and have compared it against other products so I talk from experience even though you may disagree with me. Fair enough if you don't like what I am saying but I do know what I am talking about because of experience and research.

whoooaaa

calm down SteveL

In my opinion its a good product

I haven't paid for it, it was included as part of the sale of the car so I'm not defending it to justify any expense - I really do think it is good. To wash my car I just hose it down, sponge it off (during winter I use some car shampoo) and then dry it, that's it - no need for any polishes (just some alloy wheel protector every 3 months or so) and it looks like new even after 5 years.

Before I came across Supagard (spelling ;) ) I had to spend ages waxing the other cars I've owned to get them looking the way I want it - after Supagard wax no more :yahoo:

Supagard is a rip-off. Don't believe me? See what the folks on here think: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/sear...earchid=1886378

e.g. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/show...hlight=supagard

or http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/show...hlight=supagard

All it is is a paint sealant and a hefty profit margin for the dealer. If you got it free with the car then more power to you, but the dealer may list that as a £300 freebie, remember ;)

(Appaling Arthur Daley accent) "Well, we have given you a £300 Supaguard treatment, my son..."

Autoglym and Megs do AT LEAST as good a job. Elbow grease, Autoglym Super Resin Polish and then NXT work just as well.

mmmmmm no wonder Supagard has a bad reputation

I've been lucky in the application of this product on my car (and the better halfs). Not had any issues like those mentioned on the above links - sounds to me like it doesn't get applied properly in most situations :!Removed!:

Wasn't a £300 'freebie' as the deal was done - In fact the dealer didn't mention it - I said, as I was about to shake hands, "of course you'll include the application of Supagard then?" - salesman had nowhere to run  wouldn't have had it otherwise.

Still happy to get it done again - after all which other product can last over 3 years with only one application

Calm down  It is somewhat curious that you think I am less than calm  I put my point across in a considered way so I fail to understand why you think I need to calm down :o Odd

Anyway, I know we are indeed referring to exactly the same product (regardless of spelling) so we shall have to agree to disagree on Supaguard. If ever asked I would most certainly advise car buyers to steer clear of this product as I consider that anyone can do better with a decent off the shelf polish as I mentioned previously. Whatever car you have, enjoy it :D

i agree with majority that its a goodproduct but it is a rip off

i got a new motor last week didn get the supaguard but i polished car withautoglym yesterday and it come up very nicely

Or those with plenty of money who do not mind lining the salesmans pockets ;)

Fair play to you, that's the only problem with buying online like I did- no scope for haggling extras (like I'm any good at it anyways!!! )

It'll last up to 3 years if applied properly ;) :)

hmmm.. id still rather have the satisfaction of polishing my car myself... and hey, whats that cost... £15 every year or so in polish... well worth the effort :D

I'm with you on this.... I get satisfaction from polishing my car and knowing that the job has been done properly. The job may take a few hours, serves me right for buying such a big car ;) , but so what, its all part of car ownership :D

We viewed a 4 year old Honda and the saleman described her as 'looking so new she must have had superguard treatment'. Wethought nothing more of it until we noticed a large number of rust spots.....

Clearly the salesman was either wrong about the cars condition (he didn't have a clue what the car was like and hence we had to deduce he would say any car was wonderful) or superguard is a complete waste of time! Either way, we were a bit disappointed....and ended up back in Toyota buying an Aygo.
