Gen 6 Brake Pad Replacement

Hi Guys just a quickie can anyone tell me if there are any special tools needed to replace front and rear brake pads on a Gen 6 (1994 Auto, Import)? Do the calipers have to come off or can the pads be replaced in-situ.

Cheers

take bottom bolt out , swivel caliper up overs, push piston in and replace pads.

Straightforward job - no special tools - bit fiddly - easier with 2 people, though - FWIW, think there was a tutorial for the same job (with pics) from the new MR2 (think it was from this site??) - might be worth a quick look.

  • 6 years later...

Replying to an old post, but I've fitted new pads from Toyota (painted black?)

I found the end tabs were too wide, so weren't releasing (and needed pliers etc. to get them back out of the slots!)

I filed the tabs down so that the new pads dropped in easily, and could be pulled back out without struggling for minutes with pliers and screwdrivers!!!

Used copper grease on the filed edges when fitting the pads

Opening the bleed screw before pushing the piston back (with a G clamp) may avoid damaging the seals on the master cylinder from pushing the brake fluid back?

I put silicone grease with 55% PTFE on the sliders inside the corrugated boots after cleaning out the old grease (which can harden)
