You lot are great! Thank you! Looking at the PDF, is seems a bit complicated, but I'm sure it'll make sense when I get them!

Cheers!

How easy are the steps to fit yourself? Are there any guides? Or is it simple when you see them?

Easy to fit, should come with fitting instructions. If not you can get them off Toyota techy site.

Dave.m,

When you eventually get your steps (sorry to bring it up again!) any chance you could take some pics when fitting them?

These blinkin weekends keep getting in the way. I think I will ask the Government to ban weekends........OK Dave?

I have bars on my 2005 RAV4, but voted for Steps

Are the supports actually strong enough to support any real weight?

I always saw these things - bars especially - as more a protection against damage to the sills if rock-scrambling or the like (not that the typical RAV4 owner would subject their vehicle to that :) )

The brackets that hold the steps on are very sturdy, they might even hold Dave_M up :D: :D:

Anyway, steps win in my vote, and when you read this Dave, your steps will be winging there way!

Kingo

Watch it you, I must be your best customer on here so far this year, and as I previously said at 5-8" I am a short rrrr's

not a fat rrrr's :lol::lol:

Ok, just finished fitting the steps. First off if your not so handy at this stuff then I would recommend you get the

dealer to fit as its a 1 hour job (for them). Dont get me wrong, the brackets and steps are an easy fit. Its those

bloody plastic under body protection plates that are a real pain. As you can see from the techy site, you have to

remove them and cut out a slot to allow the bracket to fit. Drivers side came off ok apart the stupid plastic two

piece clips holding it on breaking  Its also held on with plastic nuts which easily strip (why use plastic ?)

So need to order more from Kingo. Anyway problems really started with passenger side, the plastic nuts must

have been put on with an air tool and are rounded, just couldn't get them off (some are down inside a hole with

only enough room for a socket). So heres the scarey bit, had to lever it back letting the clips ping off, just enough

to cut it in situ. I say scarey because some of you wont like using a jigsaw so near your bodywork, diesel tank or fingers.

So now fitted but need to get back under when I get new clips.

And sorry Allycomet I did not take photos as the wife is away to a bloody concert with the digi camera

Would not have helped much anyway as its pretty much as described in the download. Other than that they look

ace I will post some photos when I get camera back, as long as wife throws knickers at stage and not camera :lol:

 'Struth, the photos of the concert will be more in demand than ones of the steps..... :kewlpics:

Brilliant

Does this mean I won't be able to see the Eagles for flying knickers?

Dave

I use single hex deep sockets on those plastic nuts. I think the idea is they don't need to be tight and they will always come off (you didn't want to hear that last bit did you?)

Glad you've done it though - looking forward to the pics if the lense isn't still steamed up!

Nice job Dave. Somebody mentioned they could be a bit awkward (getting the under shields off I think) how did you find it?

Just received my steps yesterday. Hopefully will fit them this weekend! Any tips?? :D

Easy job to do just follow the instructions except for to the plastic under body protectors.

I undid the fasteners at the sill side then pulled the covers down and using a junior hacksaw cut out the slots as per drawing without a problem.

Best of luck. (You should not need it :D )

Would agree with Valeite, those guards are real pain. I got the first one off ok, but broke the clips so its back on

with a wing and a prayer. The second I could not get off so had prise back and cut in situ. I would also say that on

the Toyota drawing it shows the steps hard up against the front mudflaps. I slackened mine off and moved them

back to a more central position as it looks better. When tightenig up the nuts that hold the steps to the brackets

dont over tighten, you will distort the slots in the alluminium steps and make it difficult to remove or adjust if you

ever need to. Good luck. :)

Hello all..

Just finished off signing paperwork to get my Rav, wanted the side steps, but they just couldn't do them at the price I wanted so decided to look elsewhere and then get them fitted by my local mechanic..

Anyways, seemed like this is the most suitable thread to post in rather than starting a new one... Could people give me some details of places that sell sidesteps? Preferably new, unless in near perfect but used condition. Its for an 02 plate 5door Rav4 VX (yes.. not as s****y as some of the ones I've seen on here, but I still think is great!).

Tried eBay using 'side steps', brought up the £195 + shipping ones from direct4x4, which lead me onto having a look around their website. Also found the Formula4 website and had a browse around there.. So if there's any other supplier people can think of, I'd appreciate it if they could put them up on here.

Thanks, Tom

Hi and welcome

There's a great parts guy - Kingo - who is parts manager for a Toyota dealer. I have just ordered side steps for my better half's Rav4.2 from him. Suggest you pm him and I'm sure he'll be able to give you a quote. IMO, the Toyota side steps are the best looking ones....
