Problem With Start Motor On 98 Avensis

Hi there,

I have a 98 Avensis with about 165k miles on the clock. In the last couple of weeks the starter Motor is failing to kick in intermittently.

It will be fine for a week but then won't start and I have to push start it. A friend says that it may just be stuck and is a common issue with old cars.

I was trying to find it under the bonnet as my freind says that if I give it a bang with something it will probably be ok again.

I don't seems to be able to find it.

Can anyone tell me whereabout it is?

Also, any advice as to a possible fix would be great...

Thanks for this. I'm not totally convinced that this is my issue but good to know all the same.

Any idea how I can find the starter motor when I look under the bonnet?
