Hi all

I am considering a cts.

I have read these forums extensively and have come to the conclusion that these cars are well thought of but not perfect.

I am aware of some of the reliability issues, however;

Is it going to let me down?

I would be looking to buy from main dealer.

I love the idea that u can rev the s$*t out of it, and will sound awesome, reasonable fuel economy and insurance.

I am looking at a 53plate around 7 grand, 55,000m

Cheers

Chris

you should be able to find a nice one for that sort of money its a shame as iam prob going to letting mine go this year and its going for £2000pounds less then what you want to spend and has 7,000 less miles then what you want and more bhp then standard and is in my eyes the best colour thunder grey well next to black. ANY way welcome and good luck and when you do get one enjoy lift  travman

I might be persuaded to let mine go for the right price......

53 plate, 33k miles, thunder grey with leather and bluetooth.

Although I'm not sure I could find anything I'd want to replace it with. ;)

Yeah.... The only thing I can find is a nice Astra SRI 150 diesel. For £9.5k.

Not sure if it's worth it really..........

personaly i think you would get a facelift (04 onwards) for 7k with better miles than the example u stated.

i got mine 5 months back 04 black facelift with 17k miles for £8000, had a few scratches here and there but only noticable on inspection and due to the paint being thin, got £400 off for these scratches.

i dont know why u are worried about reliabilty, these cars are sound hardly ever hear of anyone with major problems or any at all.

i see your from middlesbrough, i could take u for a spin if u cant get hold of a test drive if u where serious about getting one.

reliability with a toyota is not an issue..every car has a problem but i can almost guarentee hardly anyof the cars made go back as much as any other car does. forums tend to be the first place you look for a query about faults so u can expect faults from reading up on here. But trust me go to anyother manufacturer u run with even major problems.

If you are insisting going to the dealer it's going to cost a bit more, obviously.

Have you thought about buying from outside the dealer network?

I've had 4 versions of the Corolla hot-hatch over the years - I had little hesitation in buying this way.

Just the usual HPI check, FTSH documentation, take your time with the vehicle inspection, test drive

to get a feel for the thing - you can usually make your own mind up.

This would allow you to buy a newer / lower mileage model.

Or something worth considering as you've probably already read on here is the fact that this car is

crying out to be lowered - it actualy improves the ride quality as well!!

Other stuff such as typhoon kit, bodykit, TTE silencer all add to the appeal of this car so you may want

to put something to one side to get this done unless you are lucky enough to find one with it already on.

This car is as quick as most cars when driven normally and a match for most others in lift.

There's plenty of std equipment on board, it doesn't shake your skeleton into submission when driving it.

Fuel economy should be early 30's when used normally and it's possible to get mid 30's if you drive

it to the speed limits.

Only things I have against this car are that it can be wearing on the mway when doing a big journey and

if you are wanting to accelarate while moving it takes a brave man to drop it into a gear near the lift zone!!

thats why i said get a facelift as its been lowerd and has bodykit, spoiler, auto windscreen wipers etc

i have typhoon fitted, i never get anything above 27 mpg, if i never hit lift then i would be mid 30's

since i got mine 5 months ago i aint came up to a car that has left me its very close with all the hot hacthes, great car worth every penny

Only on your hearing, the ride is extremely comfortable

  • 2 weeks later...

has anyone done a 0-60 keeping to 6000rpm?

would be interesting to see what its like, people slate this car for having zero performance at lower revs.

If you keep it to only 6k then you are not using the whole range.

Any high revving, low capacity N/A cars is going to lack torque. All it means is that you have to work for the power... It's not ZERO performance like some media say. I use to beat BM320 and GOlf GTI (red i) all the time. But yes, you must use all the revs.

Nothing wrong with them, jst some people trying to move on i guess, strictly speaking it is a little un-practical if you more than 2 people or yourself, thats just me though(althoguh im not a family man or got a partner, lol) all my other cars either been a 5 dr or 4dr sedan so with friends getting in the back is bit of a pain but i dont really use mine much or take many people in it anymore !

I have a 3 year old son and don't have a problem in either our 5-door or 3-door T-sports.

Tend to use the 5-door at weekends, however.

You need to have a drive of one to get an understanding of where the power/torque

is in relation to the gear you are driving in and the speed you are driving at.

If you don't do many 100+ mile journeys it should be more than comfortable enough.

As mentioned in my previous post it is possible to stay well above 30mpg -

the good thing is this car gives you the choice!!

Then it's just the other costs associated with running any car which aren't cheap no matter

what you drive.

If you do get one I dare you to not use lift! It's amazing. I just love cruising along on my journey

home from work then getting to an appropriate spot and hitting the accelarator - it's great!!

Hehe I think most are a bit tongue in cheek.

Its only a 3 door.

Try lifting a growing baby in an infant carrier in and out all day!!

As others have said go for the facelift if you have that much to spend and if you can find the right one... or else find a perfect pre-facelift which has been freshened up and got lots of extras and sensible mods... I've been in both many a time and would always always go for the facelift model...

If i could have found a 5dr face lift with leather & Sat Nav i would have definitely bought that, all the mods i have done have made it as good as a facelift but its cost a bit :)

i actually like the idea of a pre facelift model, looks boring other than the exhaust and red toyota badging and im not interested in throwing a car round corners, just want a comfortable reliable, fast when i want it car.

i would like to install the sat nav if i get one, would this be possible? if not i will just get me map back out!

Spoke to a guy on here who sort of relates the cts to his old Integra Type R, a truly awesome machine, If a cts i anything like the performance of that car it cant be half bad, just seems the media/motoring journalists give this car a real hard time.

Did you ever see this review before, in fairness it did come last but the two boys presenting liked the car. If you want a comfortable car with a good turn of speed when you need you could do alot worse that a corolla t sport. You see like fast renaults an pugs but those kind of car wont put up with abuse for very long, not the sort of thing you would want to buy without a warranty!!! GTI golf have problems with oil sludge and starved turbos blowing cause people dont realize the have to let the car run on before they turn it off, ignition coils go to. The honda is nice but not sure bout the image it has.

Over all the corolla it not a bad buy, easy car to live with and relatively cheap to buy

Cant argue with anything Hogie says, these are an excellent car, fast when you want it but discreet so people leave it alone.

However 2 things you must do on test drive, see if you can live with clutch (but you do get used to it), and take it on the motorway at your normal speed as its a little noisy ,you cant get rid of this. These are the only things i dislike about his car.
