How To Keep Injectors Clean

HI all

I have recently had the all important 60k service (Iridium plugs, oil, etc), but my car still feels as if its being held back.

Air filter is new, so my thoughts are that the fuel injector may be clogged up.

I mean its not missing, indeed its a main dealer car with just 55,000 miles but I can't understand why its not performing 100%. just lacks that extra kick that you expect from a 2.0 vvti.

A mate said best way of cleaning injectors was to take it on motorway and drive each gear into red line (6-7k revs), and that should sort it, but am not convinced.

Any ideas most welcome

You can get injectors professionally cleaned and the spray pattern checked. This is probably the best way to do it but not sure on price.

I first thought the same thing about my 2 litre avensis and then I looked at the weight details of the car and realised it was almost twice the weight of my old Honda Civic!

Thanks for replies. I dont know about getting injectors cleaned, i mean its low mileage, and i think cleaning them up might be more damage than leaving them as they are. What about redex, is that any good or just hype? And what about my mates advice, any ideas ? thanks

He's pulling your leg. I very much doubt your car will pull red line in all its gears. Red-line in 3rd is probably illegal, and 4th and 5th highly so.

I imagine Redex does what it says on the tin, but a good fuel containing cleaning agents is a simpler ready-mix solution.

Yes ur mate is correct but first but injector cleaner in the fuel tank and drive about 5-10miles to get running into the engine. Then give it some rev's. This works on both petrol & diesel cars. But it might only redline up to 3rd max cus i dont think you will get redline out of 5th gear.

V-power has been proven to help clean the injectors

You'll need to run at least 3 tanks though - i run on it all the time in the hope that it prevents clogging.

Do give it some beans too at least once a day, engines are made to rev.

Redex does the job folks - I could see and feel a difference?

Redex works (every tank)

STP Fuel injection cleaner works (every 3k miles).

STP Full system cleaner works (every 4k miles).

Acetone works (every tank really).
