Help Needed

I have a 1995 1.3 petrol corolla, which is currently on jacks blocking my garage. I need some help as the outer driveshaft boot is torn and needs to be replaced. I have the brake disc off and the drive shaft is free from the wheel end. But it is firmly fixed on the inner end.

Please help how on earth do I get the drive shaft out so I can change the boot?

I am desperate....

Chris... :o

The driveshaft needs knockingout of the gearbox. Drain the gearbox fluid, then get a chisel or similar and a hammer. There are notches/tabs on the inner joint/driveshaft - just give the joint/driveshaft a few good knocks here and it should come out.

When it is off you may have to remove the inner joint and boot (as the outer joint is very hard to remove) then you pull the damaged outer boot off over the driveshaft itself.

Refit is opposite of removal :D

Mart.

when refitting driveshaft it is advisable to replace the lil clip on the splines that goes into the g/box as sometimes (as i found out) the clip loses iteffectiveness once its been removed. if you buy the boot kit from toyota they come with these if my memory serves me right

No help at all this, but why bother taking the driveshaft out to change cv boots. I always use the universal fit, cv boot kit,(the one you put on split and glue up the edges) :D

Works fine, much less bother.

not an ideal solution - used once coz i was being lazy - wouldnt use again! only way to do a proper job is by removing the shaft. you can get boots which stretch over after being soaked in warm water but i have no experience of these me mate in the trade rates them.
