No Power

Hello fellow Toyota Surf owners,

On Easter Saturday i perchased a Surf. It looks stunning and i went for a test run, urban and motorway and she ran like a dream. On the way home i managed to travel about 70 miles before i lost power. I pulled over (M4) with the engine still runing perfectly. I waited for about 5 minutes and restarted and set off again crusing at about 65mph but, only got about 3 miles before it happened again. It happened a third time but, i only got a mile after which, i could only get 1.5rpm and no more. I eventually got home on the back of an AA flat bed. The AA boys couldn't work out what was wrong and I'm a dumb ***** when it comes to engines. It starts first time every time without throtle. Throtle by peddle or hand under the bonnet will not exceed the 1.5rpm. It has the right fuel. All guages are showing the correct readings that's as long as the oil guage is ment to come to centre when the revs are increased? The return turbo fan is not seezed.

I would appreciate any help as i haven't been able to experience the drive since the breakdown and the hour i got wasn't nearly enough.

Cheers Baz

Is or does the engine check light come on, it sounds like it's going into safe mode so you will need to do a search to find out how to read faults on the diagnostic port which is under the bonnet.

Here you go, articles 4 and 5 in the electrical section. http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/downloads.htm

Re-new the fuel filter, especially if the truck has been run on veg oil.

Sounds like fuel starvation, so could be a gummed up filter, blocked fuel tank breather or fuel pump problems.
