New Tyres

Hi all, i wrote in a while back regarding new tyres for an 02 T sport and am having headaches trying to find a dealer who stocks 195/65 /r16 tyres -being told each time that this was an odd size and left me limited by michelin or bridgestones - but i've been reading with interest other owners on the forum that have found more choice by moving up to 205/50/16 tyres so i rang round my local tyre fitters to be told that its not wise to put this size of tyre on the existing 16" mega wheel rims i have on the car due to something they called 'wall scrub' i don't remember the exact term! and to stick with the original size! could someone in the know advise me as i really want to put Pirelli 6's or something equally recommended by top survey's .

Any help would be greatley appreciated as it seems my only choice at present is to buy bigger alloys to accomodate the larger tyre which would be great in theory but cash flow is a problem at present so if this was my only option i'd have to wait a while.

thanks in advance if anyone can help, ardbrand.

Im after putting vedestein sportrac 3 on the front of my t sport, really good in wet and the dry, very happy with them . They got a good review on auto express, came second over all . Why not buy online and get them fitted at a tyre place, loads of site out there selling tyres now. Prob get charged 6 or 7 quid a wheel to have them fitted, but you mite save that on the RRP by buying online.

cheers i will have a look at the vredestrins by the way i meant 195/55/16's - i realised looking back at my last post i made a typo and put 65 instead of 55! i will see if they do this tyre in my size regards, ardbrand.

hi. i needed to replace three tires on my cts two bald and one puncture, very unlucky lol. i decided change the profile due to some tyres been cheeper sounds wierd but 205 50 16's where cheaper than 195 55 16. i ended up changing for the goodyear eagle f1 in 205 50 16 they cost me £360 all in which i thought was good. but what a difference its made to the car sits slightly lower but the handling difference they made dry an especially in the wet was amazing. would def reccommend the goodyears and changing the profile.

Will you not have problems as the wheel isnt desinged to have a tyre that size on the wheel? Sounds good though any chance of some pics?

Cheers

Order yourself either the Vredesteins or Toyos from here. Job done. :)

I wouldn't bother changing to 205/50s. Tyre places might not carry a lot of stock of 195/55s but they should still be able to get them in within a couple of days easily enough.

Yep, 205/50/16 are fine. I have them on mine and the circumference of the tyre compared to the 195/55/16 is minimal to say the least. Don't forget the circumference changes as the tyre wears out.

I also bought these last week, but havent had them delivered here yet due to bank holiday weekend.

i spent two days finding out the best value but obviously the best tyres for my CTS. They are meant to be fantastic in rain which is good considering rain is a all year thing in London.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/tota.../tyre_test.html

that would be the test that Hogie mentioned.

Camskill currently has these tyres 195 55 16 v for £60 delivered per tyre.

I usually go to my local Kwik fit who fit these on for about 5.50 each balanced I think.

got on fine with it looks good the paint match was a little lighter not by alot hard to tell but thats what ya get when ya trust Halfords. really makes the car look how it should. alot more aggresive lookin. have caught it a few times tho already. i have got very steep drive to get up but its worth the struggle.
