Horrible Wobble

Right some months ago the gear box blew on the old bird

Gen4 Celica..when i say blew thats exactly what i mean

Anyway before this gear box was taken out and another put in the engine still ran as sweet as a whistle...but now that another gearbox has been fitted she has a horrible wobble on the engine....nothing was touched on the engine itself only the gearbox ....all mountings are secure. The bloke that fitted the other gearbox didnt remove the old clutchplate and pressure plate as we asked him to but he said all that was fine and the fly wheel wasnt touched (i got the impression you couldnt see the flywheel without clutch plate and pressure plate being removed)..i stood and watched him do the work on her...she does drive but believe me its scarey as shes very vibratey(sp) and wobbley (feels like a very old fashioned diesel) it even vibrates my mates house windows up the street :( ...because of this we are seriously considering changing the engine but cant see how it can be the engine when she was running sweet before old gearbox taken out.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated...(was ment to be showing her this year but its all on hold now :( )

I think you're right, if the engine was fine before, then there's no reason to assume that it's that causing the wobble. Seeing where the hole in your gearbox housing is, I'd be more inclined to believe something has buckled the clutch/flywheel during the explosion. If you think about it, that being out by only a millimeter would cause terrible vibration / wobble. I'd get that replaced first before going down the engine route. Hope you get it sorted.

Something else that just occurred to me.... if it is the flywheel / clutch, then I guess you'd notice it as more of a wobble at tickover / low revs and a really bad vibration at higher revs as the speed that the flywheel spins at changes. I guess it would change as you climb through the revs with normal driving. You think of a washing machine on a cycle on an uneven floor, when it's going round normally, it rocks from side to side, then as it goes into spin, it wobbles faster and faster until it's just vibrating really badly when the spin is going full tilt.... which reminds me, i must adjust the feet of my washing machine ;)
