Water Vs. Air Cooler.

I have heard that the air-to-water intercooler on a Gt4 Rc is better than the air-to-air intercooler on the regular st185's because it prevents heat soak. Does anyone know how much horsepower these intercoolers can support I really just need to know the stats for Rc's intercooler although it would be cool to compare both.

Thanks.

pretty sure the limit of the charge cooler system is in the region of 350bhp, not sure what boost. if you have an ATA intercooler it would be easier to fit a FMIC to your car than the chargecooler set up.even if you moved the standard one to the front you would find a hassive differance in prolonged driving

Ya I feel stupid because me and my friend took apart my whole front end before we realised we cannot fit the FMIC I purchased without serious front end mods. Its the big size so theres no way it will fit in the rc bumper without cutting my bumper support and moving oil lines etc. dono what i was thinking....

On another note do you know if this conversion is correct (1 kg/cm = 36 PSI) because I did this conversion and if it is accurate (and my boost gauge as well) then my 185 is running about 15 PSI which seems really high for stock boost :wacko:

done a google search on line for pressure converters and came up with this

1 kilogram-force/square centimeter = 14.223 343 334 285 pound/square inch

i've got a conversion programme on my home computer but unfortunately i'm at work at the moment

Which would put my car at about 7 PSI of boost at redline. Does that seem right?... its basicly stock. What is safe max. boost to have on a stock st185, just looking for some cheep power.

yeah thqt sounds about right for standard, you can turn it up to about 10-12 psi safely so long as your fuel cut doesn't kick in

the 205 charge cooler can be made to fit a 185 (needs the inlet on the cc moveing and a throttle body adaptor making) but they will be good for about 400-450bhp. fmic are good but you will get increased lag

Cool so The charge cooler on a st205 is good for 400-450bhp and a st185's is good for 300-350...correct? Any ideas on how much actual boost they will support would be great too! Also where could I look to find a st205 atw intercooler

Forbes when u say 10-12 psi safely is that assuming a stock st185? Because I drive a 185RC and I have been told that this engines slight improvements allow for a later fuel cut...around 14-16 PSI is this correct? Also Heard the TVIS for this edition was disabled but that seems false because it definatly sounds different around 4300RPM.

Ya i guess the chargecooler on my 185Rc is good for about 350bhp. ATM i dont plan on going any higher than 300bhp so i should be ok. Also need to save a bit of cash for college next year. Thanks for the heads up either way.

pretty sure that right about the pressures mate, not so sure on the TVIS as the RC set-up is aparently different to the CS, i hope to be finding out how different by the end of the year :D

Got some Heat resistant paint here rated for 500 degrees F. I was thinking I might paint the bottom of my charge cooler with it to avoid heat soak. Good idea or no ? Could this actually help probably just for pro-longed driving im guessing
