they are 15's i believe need low profile tyres (195/45/15) dunno if that car has been lowered

The alloys also need to be 100pcd (common) and have an offset of around 38 (also quite common)

this should give you an idea of the arch gap you will have on stock susspension with 15's

alloys.jpg

If you want to lower there is issues with the rear wheels rubbing with ppl in the back so you may need to look into getting the arches rolled.

Hope this helps. Matty.

What changes can I make to wheel sizes ?

The standard wheels are 14 inch and are supplied with 155/65/14 tyres.

You can change to 13, 15 or 16 inch wheels without modifying the bodywork.

If you want to keep the standard 14 inch wheels but have wider tyres you can fit 185/55/14, this change will mean that when your are travelling at an indicated 70 mph you will actually be moving at 70.25 mph. You can also fit 195/50/14 tyres and at an indicated 70 mph you will actually be moving at 69.18 mph.

When changing wheel and tyre sizes there are 7 considerations. 1. The wheel size. 2. The wheel width. 3. The ET (offset - how far the wheel will stick out from the body work). 4. PCD (pitch circle diameter) the size in mm of a circle drawn through the centre of you wheel bolts. 5. The number of studs (bolts). 6. Tyre size. 7. The impact the changes will have on your speedometer (indicated) readings vs actual speed.

For 15 inch wheels you will need to buy rim (wheel) size 15x6.5 ET 37 PCD 4/100. In order to maintain the accuracy of the speedometer with this increased size you will need to put 195/45/15 tyres on. This change will mean that when you are travelling at an indicated 70 mph you will actually be moving at 69.92 mph. Alternatively for 15 inch wheels you can fit 175/50/15 tyres however this choice is limited to just 2 tyre manufacturers as this size is not very common. This change will mean that when you are travelling at an indicated 70 mph you will actually be moving at 69.86 mph.

For 16 inch wheels you will need to buy rim (wheel) size 16x6.5 ET 37 PCD 4/100. In order to maintain the accuracy of the speedometer with this increased size you will need to put 195/40/16 tyres on. This change will mean that when you are travelling at an indicated 70 mph you will actually be moving at 70.67 mph.

The recommended tyre fitments are therefore 13" 155/70/13, 14" 165/60/14, 15" 195/45/15 and 16" 195/40/16.

All wheels are offset 35 – 45 and bore 54.1. Offset 37 is ideal. A handy on line tyre calculator can be found HERE.

Try raising the height/weight at which the suspension bottoms out. Spring adjusters are much cheaper than rolling arches and can be removed without trace

BTW, I can say handling has improved. BUT, the car accelerates slower, and if the road is not flat (say potholes or bumps), it kind of steers the wrong way when breaking. This is not something I can't handle, but it's still there -> this made me be more carefull when breaking.

Good poins: handling through corners has improved, turning heads, car feels stiffer, barely losing grip.

Bad poins: Car tends to follow the road a bit when breaking, acceleration is not what it used to be(especially 0-50 km/h), fuel consumption has gone up a bit.

Good&Bad: you can feel every bump in the road.

These are Dezent V Dark 15', 6,5J, ET 38 rims, with front Toyo proxes, Aurora back 195/45R15 tires. Suspension is stock.

The breaking is accurate on good roads, but in my country, the roads are not that great.

Well have to say that they make the car look so much better - its swaying me towards the Aygo again instead of a new Smart For Two

After experiencing Mercedes customer indiference and crap build quality first hand, there is no contest!

So have you had a go in the new For Two's then or are you talking about the build quality of the last model which I would have to accept, is not up to what it should be bearing in mind the price premium. The new model seems to be made of much better quality products and properly screwed together too.

As for Mercedes - well you only have to look at how badly they do in the TG Car Survey each year

Good choice! :) I am getting a silver Aygo and will be fitting the 16x7 Dezent V ( but not the Dark) so when I fit them I will post a similar picture so that a good comparison can be made. I am hoping the extra 1/2 inch width doesn't make them stick out too much. I am going for the 16's because I want to fit some Yokohama A520's 205/40 at some point.

As for your tramlining could be that the tracking is out but more likely just the wider tyres being more affected. I have some 235/45's on a Merc at the moment and they are really really bad, so it might be just what you are comparing too. You could try putting in more air to see if it helps, my Merc gets very bad when they get low.

Andy

I'm pretty dubious about putting an 185/55 or 195/50 on the standard wheel. If the standard wheel is 4.5 inches in width then that must be at the very bottom of the allowed rim width for that size tyre. I doubt the tyre would be that flat across the tread and would not grip or be responsive. I think for a 185/55 you are better off with 5.0-6.0 inch width and for 195/50 5.5-7.0 to get a good shape.

The old Williams Clio's had 195/50's I think on a 7 inch rim just for that reason.

Why did you mix the tyre types on your car, trying to get the front to grip and rear end to be more lively?

Tight budget, rear were cheaper :D Rear will be used as spares once I buy two more toyo. I thought about what you said before buying, but in fact the grip is the same: fantasic. I came back from a 200 miles trip up and down a mountain and I can say the car peforms exceptionally, through corners, nothing that I met could keep up with me.

90 degrees corners at 50-60 km/h, I never lost grip. Top speed 110 km/h, top gear third. Felt sick afterwards tho :D Got to drive more... normally.

Im pretty sure you need 6.5's for the Aygo otherwise you will have trouble with the wheels rubbing the arches when heavily loaded i believe

Update on my alloys: After nearly 4 weeks (was told around 3) I still hadnt been rung about my Fox R3 alloys, went in today and the company phoned up Fox only to found out they will be another 3 weeks, maybe more, so i decided to cancel and order some Dezent v's which Dezent have informed were ready to pack straight away so i should have them later this week :D
