Mot Failure

My gt4 (import ' 94) has just failed its mot on the exhaust emissions. I'm not really up on exhausts but it's got an after market stainless steel exhaust with no catalytic converter. The guy in the garage is saying it will need a catalytic converter fitted to bring the emissions down. Is he right, has anyone got any views on this.

I have had quote of £60 for second hand one.

As the Gt4 was released in the UK (ie engine and chassis available together) it will have to be subject to the UK with-cat emission levels.

The MR2 turbo on the other hand wasn't available with the 3s-gte in the UK, and therefore gets the non-cat test loop hole (up until 1995 anyway).

Nice for me, but I'm afriad you'll have to get busy with the spanners and refit a cat to pass.

good luck

Ian

you don't need a cat for it to pass it's MOT but it will be the easiest way to get it through, on the other hand the fact that it's failed on emissions lets you know the car isn't running as well as it could be
