Hi...

Its probably easy to joke about this... but it is sad to see two of Britain's (ok, Ford America) prestigious motor company's sold off to a far eastern country! Where will it all end? We have definitely lost the plot. :(

I nearly purchased a Freelander instead of the Rav4... but after reading the Freelander owners forum detailing a catalogue of problems I opted to go Japanese! That said, its still a sad day. :(

Daveh - I know what you are saying but these companies have been a disaster for as long as I can remember. I've been to Tata in my brake development days and seen the operation. Unless it has changed a lot they are not slick enough to turn Jag and LR around and I can see more bad news for them. They will need to uplift them and take them out there where they can get labour for peanuts (about a 3rd of the manufacturing costs) or try to tackle it here and that is something that FMC have failed to do. From what I could see Tata made their fortune out of volume in a market that didn't demand too much. They are going to have to pull their socks up if they are to avoid a money pit.

I must say they have some lovely people who are very capable and tenacious so it will be interesting.

I can honestly say that my earlier comments are in good spirit and just leg pulling. I can't waste an opportunity to rip bothy and wollaston to bits and no doubt they will retaliate! Who knows......... Lada buys Toyota!!!?..... RAV to get trabant engine???

This surely must have been this year's biggest 'bogof' (buy one and get one free).

It might seem sad, but Ford have hardly been doing either marque much good in the last few years and this way they will retain the contracts to supply all the engines etc. to TATA. It is only what they have been doing with most of the other makes they have bought over the last decade — I gather that BMW has been sniffing at taking Volvo off their hands next.

Hopefully, the English government has tried to secure some conditions for the continuance of the Midland jobs, but I should not hold my breath on our fearless leaders being able to do much in this direction and anyway, the size of the workforce in this combined outfit is a shadow of its former self.

I suspect the production and jobs will be fine for the moment, but I should be astonished if in ten years the production is still mainly in the Midlands.

I wonder who owns the name 'Rover' and whether Ford has now also sold this on?
