Hi

I have a 2002 Corolla T-Spirit and the right indicator has started flashing at a rapid speed. What is this and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Could mean a bulb has gone, have a look round the car and see

Hello

I had a quick look and they seem to be OK, just flashing really quickly. I'll have a closer look in the morning, thanks.

Thanks for the help. It was the front bulb which had stopped working. Now I have new problems. I went to my local garage to buy a bulb and they offered to fit it, for free. However, three mechanics tried to get to the bulb and loosened it but they said there was no easy way to get at the bulb and I would have to book the car in to change it.

How easy is it to change the bulb and will the whole headlight have to be removed, as the mechanics say? They have been good in the past and I have not had a reason to distrust them yet.

Thanks

How many mechanics did it take to change your indicator light bulb?

Well the process should be covered in your handbook and should be quite simple.

But expect it to be more difficult than the handbook says - it usually is. If you have to get access to the rear then it's usually limited by the Battery or air filter, and if you have to remove the light unit that can be problematic. I'm surprised three mechanics couldn't do it though.

It was Friday afternoon and they appeared to be looking at their watches and talking about the pub. The handbook makes it look vey easy, but without having very strange shaped hands, I couldn't reach the back of the unit. They did manage to loosen the unit, which worries me a bit. The top of the water bottle stops access as does something to do with the brakes.

Thanks

Hm, that doesn't surprise me. I'm sure the manuals are written by someone with just a light unit sitting on their desk, rather than an actual unit fitted to a car with batteries, water bottles etc in the way.

Do you know anyone with very small hands who could change it for you? :)

Update; I found someone with small hands! After asking around a few people, I finally took the car to the Toyota dealership in Edinburgh. A very small mechanic managed to change the bulb and I was charged £2.64 for the job. They were very friendly and helpful. I'm no longer a flasher.
