I have spent three separate hours trying to get my Aygo Blue to understand phone numbers! Each time I give up in frustration - and it's made worse by the 'machine voice person' sounding so calm as she repeats back to me totally different numbers then what I said - and then so calmly saying GOODbye! so pleasantly as I am tearing my hair out!

I have tried slow, fast, no pause, a brief pause..everything! I have no particular accent for it to struggle with. It understands the 'name' of the phone number better then the actual number. This results in about 4 entries (that equally, it won't understand I want to delete) of correct names - with completely crazy wrong numbers.

Any hints? I was wondering if I programmed it for 'American English' as I could then put on an american accent - ???

Any suggestions? Thanks! :(

ok, first off - is the handsfree 'voice' in an AMERICAN ENGLISH accent?

If so, it needs to be set to BRITISH ENGLISH before anything else, this will make it ALOT easier for the system to understand what you are saying.

If you look in your handsfree handbook there is a small section on how to change the languages over. If you do have any numbers etc stored in the system, they will all be deleted when the language is changed.

Just noticed you have mentioned about changing to 'American english' in your post lol, If it is already in british english and doesnt work properly there could be another problem instead. we had plenty of people with problems but they wer due to the incorrect language being selected and is always fine when changed to british english.

Take it to the dealers - if anything needs replacing it will be free anyway :D

A few things that I have found useful when using mine :

Turn everything that makes a noise in the car off when using the system, even the fan for the heater, you may not be able to hear it but it can interfere with the voice recognition.

Don't say the numbers individually, groups of 4 to 6 numbers seem to go in better than individual ones.

If you have a Sony Ericsson use the voice dialling feature provided by the phone. That records your voice and is activated when the bluetooth system is switched on as normal, so you don't need to touch the phone. This is what I wish the Nokia that I currently use had.

Keep going !

This results in about 4 entries

hmm 3 more than I managed in half the time  I haven't braved another session with the woman who I hate more than Myra Hinley with her pompus ***** accent and condesending attitude, and her ability not listen to a single word I frigging say makes me think she should have been a MAN. The only bint I hate slightly more is the cow in my satnav...I think they possibly are twin sisters.

Rant finished :P :D

I had a similar problem so I changed the language to French. Now as I don't speak a word of French I still didn't have a clue what she was going on about but as least she now sounded slightly sexier!!!!

Can the bluetooth kit not use the voice recognition of the handset where I already have all my numbers set up, similar to the way that a bluetooth headset works? I thought it was really just a rather large bluetooth headset that just links to the facilities of your mobile.

That is kind of what I was trying to say, although very clumsily!!!
