Hardwiring Sat-nav Into The Car.......?

When I bought my sat-nav I got an extra power cable with it which can be connected to the electrical system of the car. I'd like to hardwire this cable in as it would free up my cig lighter socket and it would also look neater.

Has anybody had this done to their car? I guess my question would be is it easy to do? Can it be DIY?

i haven't done it but the easieist way would be to take the trim off around the cigarette lighter (just pull it, it will come off) then solder it in there.

Great stuff bunny

Opened it up this morning and got to the back of the lighter socket, rather than solder the wire in I just pushed them in between the socket thus creating a connection - then ran the wire from the back of the dashbord up near to drivers side windscreen - hey presto !! job done. 15 min job, all neat and tidy, and best of all...done for free :D

Thanks :yahoo:

Good work, to install my road angel I removed the ashtray then the gear stick sorround before cutting the cig lighter connection and 'T'ing in the cable, i then run the wire behind the dash, behind the trim below the glove box compartment, round the door then poked i behind the 'A' pillar trim and behind the windscreen/dash. works perfectly looks clean and only takes 10mins t install, when i sell the car (next month!) i will just cut the RA cable close to the cig lighter and pull the cable out, 1 min job!
