From the the first time I bought the matrix for my wife in 2004 I seem to have problems with the engine. the first 50 thousand miles she put on the car it spun a bearing Toyota replaced at no charge . I always use full synthetic oil at 3000 to 3200 hundred miles even though you don't have to change every 5000 thousand with synthetic. now this Wednesday with no warning it threw the piston rod through the oil pan at 100 thousand miles. I did some research and found out there has been some problems with this engine 1ZZFE also found out that this is an American made engine WHICH I DID NOT KNOW but, i also found out that the matrix XRS comes with a 2ZZ-GE engine and is straight from Japan. This is what i would like to do, now that being said i know that the 2ZZ-GE engine fits but, is there any mods that i have to do to it besides change ECU and transmission. greatly appreciate any help thank you,

Sincerely, Jon

Forgive me for asking what seems to be a stupid question; but would it not be easier and cheaper in the long run to repair yours, sell it and then buy a Matrix XR-S ?

Lot less hassle too!

your right St3ve but i'm looking at this way after taxes this car cost me about 28 thousand dollars so if i fix the car and sell it or trade it not going to get near what i paid and buying a new car right now thats going to be tough but i might be able to swing it, on the other hand if i can get away with just changing it over i can save alot more money and easier on my wallet than buying another car to tell you the truth i'm just ****** because they put American made engine in the car this is one of the reasons i stopped buying American cars i always seem to have problems if its not one thing its another. i'll probable just take the loss and bite the bullet. thanks for your response. Steve
