H i took my colorado to toyota under the recall and they fitted new complete half shafts. just over a year after this i fitted new brakes and on doing so noticed diff oil leaking out the end of the axle. this has made my wheel bearings noisy . as the recall was done over a year ago toyota wont sort it, as the warranty on the new shafts has ran out, so can any one tell me how to remove the shafts and what kind of a job it is .

thanks

 Hi,

New seals were part of the recall and should have been fitted possibly not fitted to save time or may have been damaged when refitting anyway its not a bad job, raise the car on that side to tip the oil away from where you are working ,saves topping up diff, wheel off, caliper off maybe you can leave it connected to save rebleeding the brakes I cant remember if you do need to disconnect it clamp the flex pipe lightly to stop losing fluid ,bits like the handbrake cable might be awkward the 4 nuts on the rear and I think thats about it, remove complete driveshaft, the seal is pressed into the axle but is easy to hook out tap a new one in, and reassemble,if you are going to change the bearing you will need to get it pressed off the shaft need to know someone with a press, dont get involved with removing the handbrake shoes they are a nightmare just try to unhook the cable.

hope this helpfull,

hedley.
