Toyota Ipod Integration Kit - Display Compatibility?

Has anyone used the genuine Toyota iPod Integration kit with a 2006 Avensis T3-X or T4? With iPods being so popular now, I don't understand why there is so little information about this kit. I've been using an IceLink iPod kit in my Citroen for the last 4 years.

What I would particularly like to know is whether track name and playlist names show on the in-car display using the Toyota kit, and if so, which models support this?

I found a link in the Prius forum for a dealer that sells them (http://www.lindoptoyota.co.uk/content/view/69/103/) but when I asked at my local Toyota dealer they hadn't heard of it. Oddly, the Toyota Europe web site still shows it as 'coming soon' and yet it apparently went on sale in 2007.

Does anyone have any third party iPod kits working in a T3-X or T4 with tracknames and playlist text working?

All i-pod integration kits i have fitted to Toyotas dont show track names etc. It just uses the ipod as a sort of 'disc changer' all depending how your music is stored and in which order really.

Mart.

To be honest the Toyota link is a bit dismal. Sound quality is excellent but there is no track title info at all until a track is actually playing. You have to make playlists and these take the place of the 6 discs in a phantom autochanger.

I don't mind if I cannot choose a song according to it's name. It's just that with the IceLink kit in my old car, if I heard a song on my iPod that I really liked, but didn't recognise it (these days I don't have time to sit around reading the CD booklet and learning song names) I had no way of finding out what it was called or who it was by whilst driving.

I've ordered one which I will fit to the 2006 T3-X next week, and I'll report back once I've found how well it works. I've also ordered the bluetooth kit which I'm hoping will work with the iPhone. (I'm not using the iPhone for music, I have a 160GB iPod classic for that).

Hi people i use an xcarlink for my avensis, the head unit model no is w53901, you just use a 12 pin (6+6) connector for the cd changer connection at the back of your radio. This connection will do for all avensis' after 2003. (pre 2003 uses a 5+7 connector) The ipod acts as the cd changer. The head unit reads 6 discs (playlists on yer ipod). The first playlist lets you control and access the ipod itself and you can also control it via the steering wheel (next track etc).-This really is the best option and its not available on the kit that toyota sell. On the rest of the discs/playlists, the ipod reads 'accessory attached' and you can't use the ipod itself. So YOU CAN CONTROL THE IPOD ITSELF on disc one of the head unit 'cd changer'. 2-6 are for the playlists on your ipod if you have any and they read on the ipod as 'accessory attached'. There's really no point using these playlists/cd 2-6 because you can access on the ipod itself on cd 1. Just had to get that point across as i had a hard time myself finding out if i can access the ipod directly. The ipod is powered and kept charged by the head unit. When the head unit is on, (and on cd changer mode) the ipod comes on automatically. When you turn the head unit off, the ipod goes off. The song text/info is not available on the head unit itself but doesn't need to be when you can see what song is on on the ipod. I was quoted by kearys toyota here in Ireland €250 for the supply and installation of their kit. I got the xcarlink for about €100, i installed it myself-it's a bit daunting but go slow and with the right tools and prep, it's easy. I'm very happy that the ipod can be accessed and can be controlled via the steering wheel also. The sound is just brilliant, crisp and clear. I use an ipod touch 16GB, it's mounted on a cradle attached to the air vent, though i'm waiting on a brodit proclip and cradle. I got the xcarlink at xcarlink.co.uk. The brodit items i'm waiting on i got from dsldevelopments.com (items #653211 and #840781). Little off topic but hope that helps ;)

How much was the Bluetooth kit?

The bluetooth kit was around £200.

I've now installed it, and am pleased to say that everything works fine. I have the Toyota iPod Integration kit connected to my iPod Classic - and the track names ARE displayed on the screen of the car stereo. I think it's only an 8 character display, so it cuts longer names short. I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but all seems fine so far.

The bluetooth kit works fine too - I have it paired with my iPhone. I added a few contacts to the contact list, and found the voice recognition works quite well. No problems pairing with the phone at all. I don't think the iPhone itself supports voice tags, so the car kit cannot access voice tags on the phone - instead it stores them itself.

Just in case anyone is considering installing these kits I have a few tips: there is no need for an extra wiring loom if you're installing just the iPod and bluetooth kits in the T3-X (no sat nav) [ the iPod kit and the bluetooth kit both come with wiring - the extra wiring loom I ordered with the iPod kit wasn't necessary ]. The yellow mute lead (which the instructions show 3 different was of connecting) I inserted into the empty 6 pin plug provided, and then plugged that into the extra socket on the Y-lead that comes with the iPod kit (which is plugged into the cd changer socket). I also found that although the instruction manual for the bluetooth kit showed removal of the central storage box (that's between the 2 front seats), I did not find any need to remove this.

The sound for the bluetooth kit only comes out of the passenger side Speakers (left side in my right hand drive car). I've read other people saying that this was the case, so I presume it's intentional, and not due faulty wiring!
