Having had my 'Blue' a whole day now (and sadly not even driven it anywhere), I decided to give it the once-over just to get familiar with it. Imagine my horror when I discovered no less than 7 different areas where there are clusters of scratches. In particular both sills and both rear quarters. Needless to say my car will be going back first thing Monday for an explanation as to why my car is in this state and to have some remedial work carried out. I wonder if I will be offered any form of compensation for my inconvenience, what do you folks think?

You don't say if your car was brand new or used? Certainly should be no scratches on a new car. I bought a 1 year old 'black' last month from my local toyota dealer, was in great condition but there was still a couple of scratches on the door sills, just wear and tear.

It's brand new, 18 miles recorded and in my opinion shouldn't even have one scratch on it. I have had 6 new cars previously, 2 VW's, 1 Seat, 1 Smart, 1 Fiat and 1 Vauxhall and none of them had any defects.

Shouldn't be scratched if its new, don't think you will have any problems returning it to sort the problems out. Can't say if you will be compensated or not, you could try to get them to supaguard it for free if its not already been done, or at least throw in their own range of car care products. My experience of courtesy cars are this, you are unlikely to get one if the work is done at short notice (next couple of days) because they are usually booked out for at least a week or two in advance.

I'm pleased to report that after a visit this morning to my dealer, all of the scratches have been removed successfully and the car washed while I waited, about 40 mins.

On one hand I could criticise the them for letting this slip through the PDI, but on the other hand they have dealt with the issue extremely efficiently, so well done Toyota!

All the scratches removed in 40 minutes? Can't have been proper scratches! Sounds like it just needed a polish.

Yea could well have just needed a polish like u say, when i worked at Citroen for my work experience we had a car come in with lots of scratch like marks on the roof, i got asked to try and polish them out. 30mins later after some intense polishing lol the roof looked good as new ;)

Good to hear Toyota dealt with the problem in hand efficiently :)

polishing takes off the layer of the paint where the scratch was on. almost as bad a t-cutting in my opinion.

Except that in my case the car has metalic paint which in turn has a layer of lacquer on top. It is this layer of lacquer that had the scratches in, therefore the paint has not been touched by the polishing. ;)
