Autolocking Doors

Hi,

Anyone know how to activate the central locking to lock the doors automatically when you start moving? It mentions in the handbook that that its possible to do (by taking it to Toyota garage) but wondered if it can be done by a sequence of events with key / door etc. Its a 53 plate Rav4.

Cheers - Barrie

On my 4.1, it has a wee button on the drivers door where you can lock doors manually. Dunno about the set up on yours but but.

Arr the old door locking scenario.... somewhere at home i have the settings needed to doo this on the RAV (someone else might have them here) this was posted years ago and entails turning the key locking and unlocking the doors and opening and closing them in a set way... Sounds daft but works..takes about 5 mins to set-up... If I can find the settings I wil post up again.....

And yes Bothy we also have a button on drivers door to lock the doors....but they setting way works when you turn to start the RAV it locks all the doors....turn engine off and unlocks doors for you.....

That would be an interesting thing to enable

I am sure the RAV4s - and other vehicles that get sold in US as well as here - will be able to have this feature to be enabled somehow as it seems to be a standard thing (maybe legal requirement?) in US for Central Locking to come on once the car reaches a certain speed (at least this is what I found last year with both a Chrysler Sebring and a Ford Focus)

What about a Sticky post with the various funny sequences to enable & disable the various bits & pieces you can do? (I keep forgetting the one to stop the seat belt buzzer going - I KNOW when I don't have my seatbelt on - don't need a buzzer to tell me!)

I have had that feature on my Renaults for years, where the doors lock when you reach a certain speed. I did not realise you could have it on the Rav, not seen it in the manual and the salesman never mentioned it. It's the one thing the wife keeps moaning about. So I would be interested to find out also.

Yea in the Renaults you have to be going over 5 mph to enable this...not much cop if you've just got in the car... ;) ;) ;)

With the RAV version as soon as you turn the key to the start position all the doors lock (ell in the 4.2 model's they do)

I will have a dig around my old PC at home....donated it to my daughter so need to trail all through the other bits and bobs on there first...luckily i hope she has her own sign on so will not have erased any of my old stuff ;) ;)

This thread supposedly deals with autolocking, although I can't make the instructions work.. :mad2:

It will work for 4.2 models but not 4.3, unless somebody knows different.

It's not one of the programmable options listed for the 4.3, I believe.

There is even a set of instructions to do it, aledgedly for the 4.3, on http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/. These don't work either (at least not for me with a 4.3 UK model with push button start).

I've been toying with the idea of a small box with a small amount of electrickary in to do the job instead. Might get around to it one day.....perhaps....

Works on mine and Like SHCM says above just for 4.2 model's.... so you 4.3 divers will have to lock yea doors manually

It would be fairly easy to rig up an on/off relay, activated by the ignition voltage, to trigger the door lock system. Then its just something else that can go wrong wi yer warranty claim.

That is one weird sequence - I will try it out on mine in a few mins

I googled for this earlier and came across this post on RAV4World for the 4.3 model - may be of some use?

One could go the whole way, and fit a relay to activate a quadruple deadlock bolting system on all doors and sunroo(ves?), with another relay fitted to activate a 12v dc inverter - 230v ac on the external handles. The latter would only use a small current unless someone chose to earth the handle to ground via their mitt. :)

Took about three goes (kept forgetting to leave the key in the ON position are turning it 5 times in 10 seconds  ) but works as advertised.

Good stuff

Nice one....Stops my daughter trying to get out of the rear of the car before I've stopped completely....Also having the child locks activated makes fun for rear seat passengers who cant get out     Extra security for laving the RAV overnight....Mother-In-Law Alarm system........ :D :D

I NEVER leave the keys in the ignition when I get out to fill up :)

Just did a little check .... The autolocking will not work when any of the doors are open anyway, plus the key must be removed from the steering lock AND a door (not sure if any door or drivers door) opened and closed WHILE the key is out for this feature to be reactivated.

So all in all, in normal usage, it all makes sense and I think I like it!

Only thing now is when you stop and turn the keys to the off then open the drivers door...you get the "Key in ignition buzzer" hate that...but supose it's there to serve a purpose....bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Without having a 4.3 to play with, the relay feed can be taken off any circuit which comes alive on starting. The other side of the circuit can then patch into the door locking mechanism, or deadlock bolt system....unless you've fitted padlocks. Circuit protection if necessary with a few valves and diodes and an LED hanging from the interior mirror to signal its operation. You could actually easily activate it as soon as you plump the bum on the seat, with the elctrical charge between the buttocks!

I followed the link but I still don't understand what you have done to get autolocking to work on a 4.3.

Well shcm, you asked :D and you got told! - something!! - but I don't know what.

You could have a laser that detects that your head has broken the beam and then when you do crash the beam will detect your head is no longer where it should be and unlock the doors. You would then need a proximity sensor on your wallet to detect that it wasn't being stolen by a hoody while you are unconscious but would allow a fireman to cut you out without sounding the alarm. I think the wreckage would look neater and allow the firemen clearer access with the mirrors folded in which would probably need a switching relay (not available on XT3 - sorry). Good news for T180 owners because when your wheels get mangled in the carnage a light will come on the dash board and that doesn't need any relays or bums on seats.
