17" Or 18"

guys i really cant make up my mind and hope u guys with help with this little dilema

looking to buy some ultralite alloys for my compressor and i realy cant decide whether to get 17" or 18"

i tell you y:

17"- 17s are the orginal size the compressor wheels come in so i believe the the speedo is calibrated to that size(correct me if im wrong)... and for handling they are probably alot better! but i cant help but notice most of you who have got bought after market wheel for your t sport have regretted not getting 18".. which is my only real hesitation cos lets face it alloys arent cheap!!

from wat i know correct me if im wrong but bigger wheels ie. 18" will

-reduce the turning circle

-given an incorrect speedo reading

-affect handling

-reduce acceleration

and i dont really want that to have to deal with those issues but i cant help but notice that the 17" look really small

so wat would you guy guys? 17" or 18"???

any points will be

I would go 17", lowered they dont look too small.

18" would look really good! but think of tyre prices!

I would go 17"

Also in the long term I would think that 18" would put a more stress on the gearbox as it is not the original size or weight that it was designed for.

I guess smaller profiles will help with the rotation etc but the weight would be more right?

I am probably wrong but its worth thinking about.

well the thing thats the thing thought about the weight and hense my choice to go for ultralite wheels

so im pretty sure that it the 18" ultralite wheels are lighter than the original 17" compressor wheels.

im not sure do low profiles help?

so i realy am in 2 minds

i was also thinking of lowing as mention above but that means geting coilovers which i cant afford atm and dont want to get just springs cos that will compromise the ride...

im havin the same dilema mate, think im guna go for the safer 17" cos of price of wheels n tyres etc.

i was lookin at the ultralite apache in silver with a red rim to go with the red/black interior of my ts.

there is a place up here near sunny southport that does them, but only up2 17"

the lower the profile - the smaller the circumference of the wheel in total.

a 18" alloy with a 35 profile would be significantly smaller than a 18" with a 45 profile. So I thought by having a smaller profile in this case, you will reduce the negative effects of 18" alloy eg speedo etc...

or have I gone crazy?

Those Spec ones on the Ultralite are lovely! They look like OZ super leggeras (which are also known for lightweight alloy).

Are they actually lightweight?

anyone know who makes the compressor alloys. i would much prefer to buy 18" or 19" versions of the original wheels. dont want it looking like i got 1.4 and bodykitted it up

The only reason i went for 17s instead of 18s was that they didnt do the wheels i wanted in an 18 so I settled for 17s. The arches are big so 18s shouldnt be any problem anyways

Go for 18s especially if they are lighter than the Compressor's 17s. I always regretted not getting 18s with lowering springs on my red CTS and if I was keeping my current grey CTS I'd definitely be getting 18s... If you lower the car mildly and have a light set of 18s that aren't too wide then you'll have a perfect set up IMHO...
