Having had my Platinum 4 weeks now I hadn't filled up at all (full tank from the dealer). I was going along today with the gauge showing 2 bars - it had been on 2 for a while & I was waiting for it to hit 1 bar anytime. Then from 2 bars  it bleeped & went straight to 1 bar flashing - is that usual? I was expecting it to go to 1 bar & stay there a while giving me time to fill up before it started bleeping & flashing. Luckily, I was near a Shell station so the panic was over fairly quickly.

Do I need to start thinking about filling up on 2 bars in the future?

Thanks for your help on this.

i tend to fill mine up after ive done about 50miles on the 2nd bar... just to be certain...

i was the same when i picked up mine... started flashin n i was like... *ARGHHH wheres the nearest station!*

I was the opposite with mine, when I first my first aygo I decided to see how far I got with flashing light and managed to run out of petrol  but I at least now know what I can get out of it. I think depend on how you drive it, from when the bar starts flashing I would say you safe for about 30miles but pushing it when you are getting to forty miles. I fill up now the moment it blinks if not before to stop the gunk dragging through but I do 35mile commute and there is only 1 expensive petrol station on the way

the last one flashes. when it starts flashing real quick that's when you need to worry!

Thanks for your replies. I wouldn't have panicked so much if I'd known you get 30 miles once the flashing starts. I think I'll fill up as Aimee does once I've done 50ish miles on the last 2 bars. Don't want ot end up thumbing a lift down some country road in the middle of nowhere.

Another question:

Is it legal to carry petrol in your boot (in a plastic container)?

It would save the worry of running out, but sounds a bit dangerous to me - especially if hit from behind. What do you think???

PaulGP, I had the same experience as you with my 'Blue'. When I filled up I was alarmed to find that there were only 2 litres of fuel left when the last bar first started flashing!

I will run it down that far again as I am doing an economy run to see what MPG I can get out of it. So far I have done 98 miles before the first bar went out, but at this rate it will be the end of the month before I need to fill up! :D

I actually put in 34.10 litres about a mile after the bleeper went off, so I must have had less than a litre left in the tank. I did keep filing until it clicked about 3 times so it was full to the brim.

I've done a quick search of all the sites I can think of, VOSA among them and I can't find anything that says it is illegal. I did find some advice for home storage which includes transport...

My only experience is at the raceway where I work, and that pretty much is the same advice as in that link, marked containers and approved ones. However, metal ones are banned at the raceways incase they cause a spark, but plastic approved ones are allowed.

I would advise making sure it is marked to say it contains petrol and is highly flamable in case there is an accident, then the fire Brigade will know what's in there and how to treat it.

Congratulations - 64.3MPG - not bad!

techinally you need a license to store anything over 5litres.

Thanks for the info. I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Will just fill up in good time in future.

Yes, but below average for the diesel Aygo. When I was more patient, the avg was in the low 70s

I'm doing the same economy run as aygo-bloo with this tankful of v-power. So far I've done 120 miles & still on the full 6 bars. Mainly done that on 2 A road runs not exceeding 70mph.
