I won't lie, I love to change my cars and modify them, but i've never had a new car before. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what you can and can't do in order to keep your 3 year warranty?

I'm guessing it's going to be a case of only being allowed offical toyota bits fitted by toyota?!?!?

Many thanks in advance :)

As a rough; guide anything offical done by Toyota/TTE wont void warranty (but is rather expensive). Anything you do that isnt will void the warranty on that part of the car, so my advice if you want to keep warrantly dont do anything to your engine as thats the part thats likely you go wrong (well not liekly but you know what I mean). If really not sure and certainy I would clarify anything from your dealer.

Does getting an alarm fitted affect the warranty?

The company i'm getting to do it was recommended by toyota

If you fit ANYTHING non Toyota, and the fitting of that item causes a failure of the car in some way, then it would not be covered under warranty

Example. Fit a non approved alarm (Just because a dealer recommended the company doesnt mean your covered) The alarm subsequently goes wrong and burns out some wiring, not covered by Toyota. You might have some redress against the company that fitted it, but you would have to pay up front for repairs, unless the alarm company cough up! I am using the extreme here but you get the picture

Example2. Have a Toyota spoiler fitted by your dealer. The spoiler falls off, dents the tailgate and scratches the bumper as it hits the floor. The spoiler, fitting of, and subsequent damage is covered, including painting, as it was a genuine part fitted by a dealer. Again, extreme but you see how it works. You could fit an alarm and a wheel bearing fails, that could not possibly relate to fitting an alarm and you would be covered, no problem,

So if you want to keep safe, use genuine parts and accessories, they may be more expensive but you do have peace of mind

How about fitting a new gear knob?

I couldn't imagine that causing any problems, but I can't see why you couldn't change it back to the original if you still have it when it has to go back hee hee

Same goes for any "bolt on" bits ie induction kits etc

If they can be removed if there are any problems then go for it!!

well this is where im in a dilemma... i dont mind putting wheels on mine, theyre easily changed back to the standards!

but i want a new headunit, sub & amp... although i dont want to void the warrenty on the electrics *shrugs*

I can see where the trouble starts there. You could make a removable system, but I think it would be hard to disguise the tell tale signs where they had been.

I'm thinking a ready made sub box, from a retailer, such as halfrauds, with built in amp and then an aftermarket HU. Mount the box and amp on velcro and I guess you're half way there lol

Keep the original stereo and then you've only really got the power cable to worry about, earth it off the chassis (in a suitable place, eg not the fuel tank etc) that doesn't involve cutting or damaging the trims.

Without my Aygo to look at I don't know what the options are. I think the biggest thing would be the power cable, because the one in the show room had the Battery under the bonnet so I assume they're all the same. Unless you can find a gromet to pop out.

Maybe if you asked Toyota or Halfrauds where you stand on your warranty, there maybe a way like mentioned above where Halfrauds then take on the responsibilty should something happen, I know they do fit things to cars now.

i wouldnt get anyone from halfrauds to fit my stereo ever, theyre more clueless than i am

but thanks for that... i may call up and enquire
