Cracked Windscreen

Went in for a haircut and by the time I came out my windscreen had a foot long crack in it. No sign of anything hitting it. Weird!!!

£70 excess on the insurance.

I had a quick look at what is involved and there is a fair bit of trim around it. I suppose the guys from autoglass know what they are doing :(

As the screen is bonded they can break if you go over rough ground and it twists the body. Might have happened some time ago and is just relieving the stress.

Yes the only thing I can think of is that a very small crack was already there maybe underneath the trim at the Wiper Blades and for whatever reason it's decided to show its face today. I managed to give it a wash yesterday and there was no sign of it.

Was that the hair that got washed yesterday ;) ;) ;) ...... and trimmed today as it was in your eyes obscuring the crack in the windscreen...

Sorry had to laugh at the explanation you used....expensive hair cut sir.....

Had exactly the same in a Golf GTi, except it wasn't a haircut I went for, it was to pay for petrol I'd just put in the car! Repairer said that the body had flexed (damn those hump-backed bridges) and the start of the crack had been hiding in the corner of the screen

Unfortunately, although I used to have to have regular haircuts, advancing years have meant that the better half does a quick whizz round what's left every couple of weeks. Doesn't take too long unfortunately!

Years ago :afro:

Now :angry2:

Just had the screen done on number 1 94 RAV - for the 3rd time I think. A crack had been there for a year but decided to extend to 18" by itself - just the flexing of the body as the windscreen provides some rigidity.

Make sure that whoever replaces it puts enough goo around the whole screen as my last screen leaked cos autoglass never made sure the seal bead was continuous - found out where the leaks were coming from when the old screen came out.

it's a bit of a scam with some insurance companies.

they claim that they replace your car parts with original parts but when it comes to your windscreen you get one without any label...

so i had a bit of a talk with them and did this. i let them change the windscreen with an toyota branded one. paid the bill and claimed it back. 2 weeks later i got a cheque with the full amount. of course you have to pay the excess your self what is £50 with my insurance.

before every body start, sure i know there isn't any difference in the windscreen and they come from the same factory but i have a toyota vehicle so i want toyota branded parts. simple as that as i pay for that in the premium every year.

The US guys have big problems with 4.3s cracking windscreens for no apparent reason. I reckon the longer bodies flex more.
