My Celica Is Down And I Need Help

Hi

I own a 1992 Celica GT with a 5S-FE engine. All of a sudden the car started to lose power... I decided to change the timing belt and the ignition coils. But it is still having that problem. I also started to notice that it works well when the car is cold and once it is warmed up it starts to lose power and chokes. I checked the ignition coil at cold temperature ~ 30 degrees C, and got these values

Primary coil resistance: 0.5 ohms

Secondary coil resistance: 13.3 kohms

Pickup coil resistance: (G - 245ohms) (NE - 490 ohms)

I know the values all fall within the range but the distributor is the only thing that I haven't changed. I also went and checked the values at hot temperature above 40 degrees C.

Primary coil resistance: 0.9 ohms

Secondary coil resistance: 15.9 kohms

Pickup coil resistance: (G - 269 ohms) (NE - 545 ohms)

I am just wondering if I should replace the distributor? please tell me what else I should check. Once again the car starts and runs ok in the cold. Once it has warmed up it starts to have power problems, and also starts to not respond when I step on the gas(I believe it is an ignition problem). I love my car and wants to fix it.

Hi

I am wondering if there is a way to inspect the ignitor. I believe maybe that is causing the problems

I don't know how you would inspect them. But a good start is to make sure they're well earthed. Plenty of people have had problems with these not being properly connected to a good earth, because the bolt that holds them corrodes easily.
