Typhoons, What Do You Advise?

Ive got a stock grey cts 55 reg and i heard about typhoons from reading these forums.

soooo i googled them and found out that they are air intakes as most of you most likely know. i like the idea of gettin the extra power from a typhoon but ive

never done any mechanical work on a car before and i dont want to wreck my car from a botched job but more importantly i dont want to strap a typhoon to my

car and find its blown out my manafold or exhaust system lol.

if i do get a typhoon what do you guys/girls think i should do to the rest of the engine? or is the stock toyota one good enough to stand the extra power?

any ideas?

cheers

Hi Rimspon,

Power gains aren't gonna be so much that your engine cant handle it. bottom line really is the intake will allow your engine to breath more effectively since by adding the typhoon you remove the restrictive standard airbox.

Sound is the most noticeable change from adding an intake in that it becomes very raspy!! :D

secondly you should notice improved throttle response.

Fitting is pretty straight forward --> like you im no mechanic but dont mind tinkering. Took me 1.5 hrs to get it sorted although in mine i found the wiring loom a little bit shorter than i would have liked. Other people dont seem to have had no issues.

Hope this helps?

P.S theres a good few historic posts on here so have a good look

i too have the typhoon and i too havent a clue about cars, with the instructions supplied it was very easy to fit.

However, my wiring loom was fairly short (blame K and N for dodgy position of air sensor) and after a few weeks a wire came loose out of my air sensor, ive had to extend this wire, push it in its place and then tape to hold it (LOL) i pulled the wiring loom to make sure my wires wernt too tight immediatly once fitted, guess i didnt give the wiring enough slack.

i felt that the typhoon gave me a big difference in performance, lift in 1st and 2nd is amazing and 3rd just seems sooooo more agressive and seems to go on and on , i felt that 4th gear with typhoon is almost the same as what 3rd gear is without the typhoon. also i gained 1 more mpg lol!

cheers guys

so i dont have to fit a stronger manafold or exhaust or anything if i get one?

is it something that insurance companys are required to know about? or is it a case of if i dont state that ive got it i wont be insured to have it replaced if i total my car?

how much does your insurance go up by if you get one? anybody got any before and after insurance quotes they dont mind me hearing about?

Im no mechanic either and i found the typhoon easy to fit. You dont have to but if you want you could stick on a trd manifold for even better performance but they are 550quid lol you can get a DC sports manifold though for around 300. Depending on the company your insurance shouldnt go up by much, didnt make any noticeable difference to mine.

Do this...buy the typhoon and give it to me its my birthday soon lol,

jokin str8 forward fittin really with instructions if you need help just ask about, as said befor helps engine breath better less restrictive and car should handle it fine as it was made for the car.

How loud is the Typhoon once fitted ? Bear in mind that I have two young kids. How loud is it when cruising at ...say around 80 mph on the motorway ? Is it owerpoweringly loud ?

On the subject of the induction kit, can you post which one you went for? how much you paid for it? and where you bought it from?

If you can get it shipped from the states,

$209 which is 100 odd quid!

£100 is the bargain of the century like!! Looked into the states route myself, but couldn't find anyone who didn't use UPS. Worked out the same for delivery as the part! I got an Apexi power intake for my Integra from the sates, £70 including delivery so you can get one on the cheap - they're about £150 over here!!
